Barista -> shift (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Zestyclose_Ad4698
Hey! Started to discuss the path of becoming a shift. I’m up against four other baristas so I need to see how I can stand out. My manager would like me to work on knowing all the systems that shifts use throughout the day. Anyone have any tips, advice or suggestions on how I can do that??

Look over the DCRs to see who's coming and going, and what it means for break times. Maybe someone's half should be at 10:30, but one person is leaving at 10:30 and not being replaced, so a good Shift would move the break up 30 minutes to avoid a problem. Are there any times that look like they could be a problem bc of understaffing, or enough people but not the right combination? Anything that could be done to fix potential problems? Are the other amply staffed times that should be used to run multiple breaks at a time, or accomplish lots of cleaning?

Open up My Daily on the iPad and noodle around for information. Look at the deployment plans for your store.

Other things you'd need a current SS/SM to help you access, like IMS and the food pull information, or the sales data on the POS. Ask if there's a good time that you could be included in doing those things.

Try to come up with and implement a development plan for your store. It can be something very small. For example, at one of my stores we had all partners write a goal for themselves on the DCR. Some goals might be "make a regular smile" or "learn a new name". Another store we wore clips on our aprons with a reminder to ourselves and other partners to do things like "be intentional" and "be kind". Even if it was informal, it was good to help partners focus on something bigger than just drinks during their shift. Doing something like this can show your manager that not only do you care about your job, but that you aim to help your store and other partners grow.
