these past couple of weeks i’ve noticed that maybe 30-45 minutes into my shift my back is absolutely KILLING me. like, it’s so bad it takes my breath sometimes and it makes me really slow on bar because i can’t move around as easily. my feet don’t hurt at all, until maybe the end of a 7 or 8 hour shift. what do you recommend to help not be in so much pain at work?
i have work shoes that are pretty comfortable, they’re a pair of memory foam nonslip sketchers.

I had this when I first started working, and I was always told in school (B.S. in Sports med) that your back muscles compensate if your abdominals are weak. So I started engaging my core when I was standing on the floor and it helped a lot. I also was more mindful about using my knees to bend and not my back. Yoga and stretching help me too! Hope you find something that works friend! Back pain is the worst.

I wear a corset to deal with mine. Helps a lot plus my waist is ✨snatched✨

WAIT WHICH CORSET? I want to try one, but I’m very scared and nervous to try it.

i went thru that same thing, i always thought it was just from smoking but it only happened at work. itd get so bad i’d almost be in tears. i tried using like gel inserts, but those didn’t work. i went to putting on bio freeze everytime i got a break and that helped. once i got new work shoes the pain went away.

I take an Aleve or Tylenol before my shift to combat that

Ok so I use an ice pack called “the coldest water” and it’s amazing! You can strap it to your back with a Velcro reach around strap and it stays cool for most of your shift. It is large enough so that it covers most of your back. The only slight downside is if you have large boobs like me it may look a little awkward without your apron on but it’s totally worth it! When my dm saw me wearing it the first time she thought it was really cool. It’s also pretty inexpensive. I have fibromyalgia so I get really bad hip and back pain but this helps for the most part. (And yes it even helps if you have a drivethru because you’re not TOO cold)

i use a foam roller, you can get like a cheap one that’s just foam or the one i have has grooves on it to help massage your back. I roll my back out on it for like five minutes a day and it really helps loosen things up :)

the muscles in my back get tight after sleeping too long in one position, and 30m-1hr is usually when it starts killing me at work. toe touches really help to alleviate that for me! it also usually cracks my back when i’m really tense so that’s a plus
