The audacity of some people (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BatWeary
I was on DTW/DTR today and a woman comes through the DT. She was really nice when ordering, and when she got to the window she looks at me and smiles. And then she ask, “Aww! how many months?” and I was like, “huh?” and she just..kept smiling and asked “well..aren’t you pregnant? i asked how many months.” after i informed her i in fact am not pregnant she just snickered and giggled like it was so funny. i’ve struggled with body image my entire life, and just as i started to feel comfortable with myself it was ruined in less than a minute.

edit: oh my gosh you all are literally the sweetest 😭 thank you 💕

What a bitch. She is an asshole.
yukhentai 43 points 2y ago
oh my god a woman of all people should know to never do that? but dont let her kill your progress. ive struggled with my weight and i currently have a belly myself so i’ve gotten that question too, but at the end of the day, a rude or insensitive person will always find something to comment on, regardless of size. its unfortunately the way some people were raised, nothing to do with our bodies. ily 💕

I’m sorry that happened & that you’re struggling. That poor woman has to go home to herself. You are smarter & kinder than that. Hope you’re feeling better.

I actually had this happen to me the other day. It’s hard to say don’t let it get to you, because it got to me. I’m losing weight slowly and that little comment didn’t help. Don’t let her steal your happy.

And that's why you NEVER assume somebody is pregnant.
hufflepuffisonfleek 5 points 2y ago
Exactly! It’s no ones business but your business even if you are pregnant. But if I was in that woman’s place and assumed you were pregnant after correcting me I 1) would have apologized and 2) would have complimented you so much. Not that that makes up for how rude I was, but I’m sure you understand what I mean. I wouldn’t laugh at someone.

Now while I am not on the larger side, I do struggle with how different aspects of my body look, so I can empathize with you and I know that if someone had the audacity to say that shit to me and not apologize I would’ve bitch slapped them.

Everyone and every body is beautiful no matter what size, shape, color, etc. I’m 100% sure that you are a beautiful human inside and out! 🤍🤍

Your body is great the way it is :)

The wonderful thing is that you can always change your appearance but she can’t fix rude asshole; she’s STUCK with that.
Allison_82 12 points 2y ago
You might’ve meant something positive by this comment but there’s no need for her to change her appearance...
Js_On_My_Yeet 5 points 2y ago
Would have asked if her face hurts
hecaete47 4 points 2y ago
Oh man what a jerk :( I have a larger tummy as a cis, but not pregnant just fat, woman and it’s my constant fear some jerk will ask if I’m pregnant. Women come in all shapes and sizes, and she was a real asshole who clearly knew what she was doing.

I’m so sorry that happened to you, I’ve had customers comment on things that they thought was their business and it most certainly wasn’t. Every time it happens I want to sit in a corner and cry

My SO told me about a time a classmate of his (this happened in high-school) about how he had a subsitute teacher who asked his classmate loudly how far along she was. It was super awkward he said and everyone heard the teacher and the students response of telling her " i am not pregnant..."
Soon later that interaction the teacher actually wrote her a letter of how sorry she was. Still think it was fucked up what she did just like this customer did . Fuck her OP you are fine just the way you are. Don't let some sleazy asshole bring you down.

I was always taught that a baby could be crowning in front you and you STILL shouldn’t ask if someone is pregnant, like????? What????

so to be perfectly blunt: that lady was a giant bitch.
chinfox 1 points 2y ago
should’ve hit her with that “how far along are you?”. all jokes aside, i can only imagine how hurtful this was, but please don’t take it to heart. insecure people prey on us as easy victims who cannot defend ourselves against their bullying. it is disgusting, you deserve better.

this happened to a partner at my store but the woman was like “no seriously I know you’re pregnant, how many months?” and the partner was like I’m not. and the customer kept asking and saying “oh don’t be shy I know you are.” It was very bad.
BatWeary [OP] 1 points 2y ago
oh my god that’s so horrible :(

Starbucks customers are assholes, but please don’t let that detract you from acknowledging your own beauty. You are a beautiful human being, and your appearance is what makes you you. I struggled with body dysmorphia before, and it sucks thinking that there’s an “ideal image of a woman” out there. The truth is, the “ideal image” is exactly what you are now, whatever that may be! The thing that got me through me body dysmorphia was that I tried to see my own beauty, and over time (for me, it was a couple years) I believe in my own beauty and nothing anyone can say will take that away from me. Stay strong and don’t let the assholes get you down❤️

Wtf. That's awful. I'm so so sorry. Also another thing to note is sometimes the way people tie their apron it makes them look pregnant. I've noticed a few of my coworkers who aren't even heavy look like they were pregnant bc of it. I know this probably doesnt help. I'm sorry. Stay strong ❤
