Are we considered restaurant/grocery for the vaccine rollout? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by coldliketherockies
Perhaps a dumb question but perhaps not, Where I live in NY they announced they will be adding grocery store and restaurant employees to vaccine lists. My coworkers think we count as we serve food, have seating for them to eat and get tips and even though we don't sell groceries we do sell packaged food to go.

But I could see how its not included for either as well. Does anyone know if we fit into that group?

See what I don’t get is how we are “essential” to stay open last year, and then when the vaccine rolls out, we are no longer essential.

I mean similar arguments with hazard pay. It was hazardous enough the first X amount of weeks to pay everyone extra and then all of a sudden the 8 months since the same exact conditions have not been hazardous? Or the fact we all wear masks and have shields (which we should) is not consider hazardous environment.

Oh I 100% agree that we should have hazard pay as well. The problem is those in retail/customer service have always been seen as disposable and these policy changes and lack of support really shows the true colors

Yes we are. We serve food & beverage so we qualify as a fast food restaurant.

But we’re also considered retail.

At first I thought we did, but I’m not so sure any more. My state is in the phase that only says grocery workers (not restaurant), but I vaguely recall some bullshit when quarantine first started about how sb stayed open because of those packaged foods counting as groceries or something

Yea same we were told we were essential business all the way since March

I forgot to say that I’m not sure anymore because the grocery distinction was only recently decided by the CDC but I got distracted oops.

Anyway, I’m not sure what to do. Should we try to get vaccinated now? Do they require proof of employment? Can you just say grocery and call it a day?

You may have to bring a pay stub but don’t quote me on that because I think it varies by state and location. When I pre registered I said I was fast food.

We’re not essential though. Doesn’t it also vary by state? I asked my ASM what we fall under and she told me we were wave 3 but I think that’s since changed to 2? Idk.

I think we’re considered wave 2. Doesn’t it also vary by State?
