As student, if I want to study abroad for a semester, is there any possibility of keeping my job when I return? Do I need to quit? Any chance I can request an unpaid loa? I heard the personal loa max is 90 days, but would they extend it for school purposes. I love the job and I really want to work when I get back. I should only be gone up to 6 months, but I’m scared to go because I want to keep my job.

depends on your district. I wasn’t at Starbucks before my year abroad, but when I applied for my summer program I also wanted to travel outside of my program so I was going to be gone for a total of two months. I requested a leave of absence, but it was denied even though I was told I would probably get it. So I was advised to resign, finish my two weeks, then I would be eligible for rehire. I didn’t believe them because all I ever heard was that my district manager never takes rehires. I didn’t show up my last day, but ended up getting rehired in the same district last November.
Talk to your SM and see what your options are. you might be able to resign, and come back. But if you have health insurance through SB then I say push for a LOB.
best of luck! study abroad is an amazing experience. don’t let a minimum wage job hold you back. there will always be something else waiting for you when you come back :) it opened up a lot of opportunities for me!

I️ would assume so! We have a partner that left for college but when they’re on breaks they come back and work. Hopefully your manager will allow that as well!!

When I did study abroad I had to officially leave and then officially come back “if there’s a job open.” Of course, there was a job open and I got my same partner numbers and everything.
The partners who left for college but came back in holidays usually worked at a Starbucks close to college so they really just transferred, not quit/leave.
