I witnessed somebody order a venti double shot on ice- not shaken yesterday while at work. I had never heard somebody order it this way & it confused me so much. It infuriated me actually. They’re basically ordering plain espresso shots. Not to mention how ordering it that way only costs more.
Is it as crazy as I think it is? These ppl don’t know what they’re getting🤭😩 and I don’t have the time to educate them in the drive thru. I’m just like “?????ok. Onto the next one”

Exactly they’re going to be paying more. Here’s how I think about it: the lack of awareness from some people is what keeps me employed

It actually cost like 30 cents more to order just 5 espresso shots over ice, so the venti double shot on ice not shaken is cheaper. I just had a customer order this and I instead put 5 espresso shots, add ice in a venti cup but she asked me to change it back to the venti double shot on ice not shaken because the latter is cheaper with same ingredients.

Worked for SB 2014-2016 and I loved the double shot on ice. Was taught it was shaken only before adding the dairy, never afterward.

I like it shaken with the dairy. I can’t get anyone to do it for me though because of the cross contamination issue.
medusas-garden15 points2y ago
Why would that be an issue? We shake matcha green tea lattes in the shakers no problem. Starbucks also makes it clear that we’re not responsible for allergens as we use shared equipment anyway
Tall_Draw_5212 points2y ago
Beats me. Maybe the barista just doesn’t want to make it?
vanbibs224 points2y ago
The cross-contamination issue isn't a thing anymore. They stopped with the separate shakers/pitchers a while ago. So they should be able to shake your drink with the milk. 🤷♀️
Tall_Draw_5212 points2y ago
This was a while ago. And a while after I quit Starbucks. Maybe I’ll try again. It was my favorite drink!
seniorbarista1 points2y ago
No cross contamination as long as the dairy shaker is being used as opposed to soy, non-dairy.....?
Ashamed_Equal1 points2y ago
So they changed this back in 2017. I’ve been a barista from 2015 - now, so I’ve seen all the changes happen, it’s like a whole new world. No more worrying about cross contamination on anything though
Tall_Draw_5211 points2y ago
That is what I said! But no one wants to be that person who argues with the person doing their job.

Ive had people asked for it that way so they wouldn't lose any foam from the shaker, and not lose any coffee

i don’t think it’s crazy. they’re looking to avoid the foam that happens when we shake the double shot. essentially by getting it not shaken (stirred instead) they are getting more milk in the drink and more beverage in general because there is no foam.

I mean it is cheaper than ordering an iced quad w/ milk and it’s the exact same amount of labor. It shouldn’t be milkier than standard thou, because you’re always supposed to use a splash of milk? It just works out that the foam takes more up room in the cup so the splash of milk ends up topping it off.
violetskies71 points2y ago
i tried to confirm that it only gets a splash of milk and is not “topped off with milk” but i can’t find the recipe card in our store resources lol
