Starbucks Baristas: The daily grind

I'm in disbelief that someone got belligerent over a banana bread today. I'm the one who tells other baristas not to stress out because it's only coffee. Trenta vent. (self.starbucksbaristas)

TL:DR: Almost called police because mega-bitch decided to aerate a pumpkin bread, at a barista (you know, just some casual assault)

I almost called the police today. A woman ordered a banana bread, and got a pumpkin bread by accident. I (the ssv) personally told her over the headset we would give her a replacement for free for her trouble. I was not however the person at dt, another barista was. I wasn't at the window to hear the miscommunication, but apparently she also wanted a refund. The barista at the window I guess didn't know or hear that initially. When the barista handed her the new banana nut bread and apologized she yelled at him for a refund angrily. (This is when I noticed and headed towards the window to intervene) By the time I had neared the window she had gotten mad enough to throw the erroneous pumpkin bread at the barista doing dt as he turned to give her the refund. When I intervened she asked for the store manager's card, and when I came back from getting her refund as well as the SM and DM business cards I gave them to her after explaining that what she did was assault and that she needed to leave immediately. I tried to diffuse the situation, but im not sure I should have because of the, you know, **ASSAULT**. All over a piece of food that (at my store at least) only costs $3.41.

The second she threw something at one of my baristas, all bets are off. No way in hell would she get a refund but immediately told to leave because I was calling the cops. Let her explain in a court why assault was worth the $3

While I feel/felt the same, I also felt the need for her to gtfo of the dt lane as quick as possible (because I was beginning to lose my composure, not from stress, but rage) and figured the cards, the paltry $3.41, and the explanation that what she did was assault would be a small price to pay for her to go away.

I totally understand but my previous job kinda made me a hardass when people want to start being jerks for no reason, especially when the person they're being an asshat to is simply there at the moment.

Hope you barista is ok though, dealing with people like her should come with a shot of vodka afterwards

So did mine, Navy 8 years as an MM. It took all of my willpower for the day not to snap at her and straight up curse her out and tell her to "go away or ill call the cops" which is why i am now at home drinking (Guatemala Antigua cold brewed for 30 hours with 750mL of Kraken Rum and 650 mL of water, with Bailey's Irish Creme Liqueur as creamer), i literally spent all of my willpower.

Karens are *throwing* things now?? They used to just engage in verbal abuse...they’re evolving.

Similar thing happened when my boyfriend first started at Starbucks. A Karen threw a wholeass drink at him through the dt window because they “made her drink wrong”. People these days...🤦🏻‍♂️

More fun when you are the newest ssv in the store, ive only been a shift for about 2.5 weeks.

Honestly this is why I believe that the drive thru window person should be allowed to wear a headset. We need to be able to at least half hear what’s going on so shit like this doesn’t become as extreme
sailorgrumpycat [OP] 1 points 2y ago
The person on dt was doing both dto and dtr, night crew = less people.

Oh.... but still. I feel like this similar thing happens way too often when I’m a mid on dtr
