For starts always double bag trash cans, if customers are pissy or even if your fellow partners are pissy, try not to take it personally. I wish you luck with the all might Siren!

FYI: no one at all expects you to remember everything you were taught. They expect it to take weeks or months. So feel free to relax about that. Things will slowly coalesce into recognizable patterns that you can remember.

Learning the POS will make it easier for you to learn drinks. Knowing drinks will make it easier for you to learn the POS. Each bit of progress you make in one place will help you in the others. And then there are the unexpected patterns that crop up: the number of shots in that size latte is the same number of tea bags you'd add to a hot tea, which is also the number of pumps of honey blend in the citrus mint tea. The number of syrup pumps is the same as the number of scoops for a pour over. (I don't expect you to remember any of that either.)

You'll struggle for a while and wonder how you'll ever know this stuff. And then one day you'll realize you know it. Don't stress overly much about it. If I had a nickel for every time someone who's worked here for over a year has asked me how long chai is good for, I'd be able to retire from the Bux. Never mad about it though. I'm glad they want to get it right.

As someone who just started 6 months ago a lot of what’s gotten me through it is still in my mind.

1: learn to laugh at yourself. You are going to screw up and that’s guaranteed. So learn how to laugh at yourself but also when you do screw up take note of what you did wrong I didn’t do this physically just in my mind.

2: Don’t get overwhelmed easily. This is for the better of you and everyone else and kinda goes along with the first thing I listed. Every situation can be fixed unless you really really screwed up but even then take action. I spilled a Frappuccino the first day on our drive through POS. The DTO (drive through orders) person just stood there and did nothing but I went and grabbed rags immediately to clean it up and moved everything off the counter and after it was all cleaned up (which took a while) everything worked fine. And in the end I learned from it (don’t frantically put on lids lol). Also people will recognize that instead of just not doing anything and just being sad that you messed up that instead you took action and that shows that you capable of handling things.

3: don’t stress to much about learning thing. Something will be learned slowly. For me this was drink making. Some things will be shoved down your throat like where vanilla sweet cream cold foam is on POS lol and other things like that, that you will need to navigate to find but other things will take time. The more hours you get it will all become second nature.

4: have fun. What makes this job for me is my coworkers. At this point we are like a family, with a family come drama. I say stay out of it, be nice to everyone even if they give you shit, don’t blame things on people, get to know with them/joke with them. Hey if you make their shift a little bit more fun they’ll like you more.

You got this, it’ll take a month or so before you feel decently comfortable and you’ll be learning everyday till then. Also take the opportunity to learn things. Ask a lot of questions it’ll pay off in the end. Good luck and have a great rest of your weekend!

play around on the app and check out recipes for unfamiliar drinks like espresso con panna or whatever you don’t often see/haven’t been trained to make. it’s useful to know pumps and shots for each drink. especially americanos, flat whites and starbucks double shots

Drinks are primarily the same numbers unless specified. Like once you know how to make a vanilla latte you can make mochas and other syrup lattes. The only time pumps are different is in caramel macchiatos and cappuccinos (though they don’t normally get syrup some people do put it in but it’s not standard recipe)
