Yay good luck!! Remember it’ll take a long long time to feel comfortable here, but at the end of the day - it’s just coffee! Try not to stress about it.

Omg I love that you said feel comfortable! I’ve been trying to find a better term that “get used to” and I found it. I train a lot of people and they always ask me when they will be good at it and I tell them it’s an adjustment period to get used to, but that doesn’t feel right so THANK you :D

Haha. My shift always tells me we are their severely underpaid psychiatrists. We can’t write prescriptions but we can serve caffeine and sugar in insane quantities.

And to add to this, If your coworkers act like mistakes are the end of the world, they’re not nice! It’s not on you it’s on them! And if it’s toxic or feels toxic see if it’s possible to transfer! Better sooner than later

I heard my SM say, “our job can be boiled down to serving coffee and making friends.” Obviously it’s over simplified, obviously customer service can be awful, but if you go into it with a good attitude to begin with, it can be a lot better.

Good luck & just remember it’s just coffee not the end of the world. Also when it comes to learning bar just embrace it because it’s not as terrifying as it looks especially when you’ve got a supportive team and barista trainer with you.

The city I live in had about 30 Starbucks locations this time last year, we’re down to 11 cause our covid measures are so strict that none of them have made money in so long. The idea of training seems so otherworldly to me now after watching hundreds of partners get laid off...
