What type of coffee is used make Starbucks espresso?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by risisre
If I want to brew espresso at home that tastes like the quad I get at Starbucks, what kind of Starbucks coffee would I buy? I've been trying forever to reproduce the taste without success with various different finely-ground dark roasts. Is it because I don't have an expensive espresso machine (it's a Mr. Coffee)?

The Starbucks espresso roast or blonde roast is exactly what we use in our machines, as at times my store has had to use from those bags. The issue most likely comes from how your machine brews the shots of espresso.
Most likely wrong amount of coffee, pressure is off, etc.

You can actually purchase starbucks espresso roast (both the blonde and regular) at a lot of starbucks locations or at your local target and then have a barista grind it for you

Have tried but it doesn't taste the same. Thanks though.

Yeah you need an espresso machine to make actual espresso

I have a Mr. Coffee espresso machine. Are you able to answer my question about which coffee to use?

The reason you may not be getting the same flavor is that we use triple filtered water which can change the taste of something more than you think it would. Also if you are adding other stuff, it will likely be different than what Starbucks uses unless you buy the syrups from the store and use the same kind of milk.

No syrup just milk. Same milk I add to my Starbucks quad when I get it home. Also filtered water but certainly not triple! Interesting! Thanks!

So the answer is Espresso Roast which makes sense, and I have tried that but have not successfully reproduced the same flavor. Has anyone been able to with anything less than a $10k+ espresso machine and if so, what did you use? Would a Bialetti do the trick?

You could try something like a cheaper capresso (i have one, works great) but there shouldn't be any difference in taste if its ground correctly since its the same exact coffee we use
