Breathe. It gets stressful and crazy sometimes but you need to remember to breathe. Something one of my shifts told me is it’s only temporary. The crazy is temporary and will die down eventually. If you mess up it’s ok. Just take a deep breath and start over. If you have to take it one drink at a time customers can wait.
Ask questions and for help. That’s what your partners are there for. They’re there to support you and answer questions. Even if you think they’re stupid ask them anyway. If you feel like you need more bar time because you’re struggling to pick it up ask for it. If you’re having trouble memorizing drinks go to your manager or trainer or another partner and ask for help or clarification.
Don’t let your anxiety get the better of you. I spent maybe a year trying to prove to my manager, partners and ASM after I transferred that I could handle things despite coming from a store where I didn’t get much of a chance on bar. You have nothing to prove to anyone but yourself. As long as you’re doing your best and doing your job to the best of your ability that’s all that matters.
It’s easy to get swept up in the chaos around you but just remember at the end of the day it’s just coffee. Any mistake you make it’s guaranteed one of your partners has made that mistake too. Use it as a learning experience. Learn from your mistakes and you’ll grow. Things happen that aren’t in your control sometimes there are times where you just have to roll with the punches.
