Question for y'all, thoughts/opinions/advice welcome! (self.starbucksbaristas)

Hey y'all "new" barista here. My first job was at a Target Starbucks and recently I came back but to a corporate one. Does it get easier? I don't know if it's just me struggling in general but I've been a part of Starbucks again for 2 months and I feel like I'm still not good enough. I get the customer service, the cleaning, the drink making but I feel like I'm SO slow.

I know it's different from a Target Starbucks, especially with mobile orders and drive thru now. But I don't know, I'm feeling lost lately and wondering if I should even continue with this. I love being back but I'm doubting myself lately.

It takes time. Is there something specific tours struggling with?

I get behind on bar a lot. I know my store is one of the busier ones but I feel like I can’t ever keep up. Also when I’m on drive thru it’s hard to juggle DTO and DTR at the same time without the time being over a minute :/

That’s completely normal. Being able to solo DT is a challenge and took me a while. I still get overwhelmed and I’ve been doing it for over a year. I take calls while handing out drinks and cashing out orders. Sometimes I just have to tell someone if they can hang on a second or call one of my partners over to take a call. Don’t worry about the time. Pretend those clocks don’t exist. Yes stores like to have low DT times but unless it becomes a real issue (which it probably won’t) don’t worry about them. When I first got to the store I’m at now they gave me so much anxiety.

You will get the hang of it just give it more time.

100% normal. 2 months is not nearly enough time to be comfortable. after 3 months you tend to know most drink recipes and become a little quicker. but completely normal, you’re on track, it does get easier and it takes a long time.

if you are enjoying it i would definitely stick with it. also.. my store’s drive times are NEVER a minute. they’re always 1+ minutes even if there’s only 1 car in the drive thru. our times are usually 5-10 minutes.

Thanks guys! I think I just had high expectations for myself since I previously worked for Starbucks already. But I feel better after reading these replies!! I appreciate it.
