I'm pretty sure tips are supposed to be taxed anyways. Any source of income gets taxed, at least where I am.

Cash tips do not get claimed as they are a direct tip, credit card tips should be taxed bc of processing fees ans the fact that they are being charged to the company and then given out , cash however is totally separate

Idk if you’re in the US, but tips very much are taxable here. Starbucks auto-reports I think $0.50 per hour in tips and we’re supposed to keep track of our tipped income and adjust that on taxes.

Any income from tips, in any form, is supposed to be taxed. That is the law. Ask the IRS.
I got in trouble with how tips were declared and taxed years ago. I had to pay $100 a month for 3 years due to penalties.
Don’t mess with the IRS.

My bad. I thought I read elsewhere that it was different!

I believe this is a step toward being able to receive tips from cc purchases. The siren has always reported $.50/hour as tips. We are to report the rest. I’m sure if tips were less than $.50 there would be 100% reporting

It’s always been that way...

False, digital tips get added as cash to the daily tips and we get tipped cash and on our stub we claim .50$ per hour regardless of tips, now that will go up and cash tips are expected to be claimed, if that’s how it was before than why would it be a change in the weekly update?

i believe they mean you were always supposed to report tips fir your taxes.
rio8envy79 points2y ago
Yes. That’s what I meant. It’s already on the W2 when you file taxes so that’s not really new.

Just looked it up: i am in NY and our state law states gratuity is not taxable, so maybe in other states you guys have been getting taxed

I think the IRS differentiates between tips and gratuities.
