Ignore the part about digital tips. It basically means your paychecks will be marginally bigger.

Cash tips procedure now:
1. Get cash money! Yay!
2. Go to My Partner Info through the Hub
3. Tell MPI the amount of money you got in step 1
4. That's literally it you're done

Thank you tremendously for the EILI5

You're welcome! I've seen people over-explain and try to make confused people understand *why*, but the *what* is often either left out or buried under so much exposition it's hard to follow. Gotta know what you're doing before you can figure out why!

Also etips are going to come in your paycheck not as cash

Honestly I hate that the most because I use my tips as my "fun money" that I have each week - eating out, new item of clothing, fun purchase, snacks while getting gas, etc. That lowers the amount of cash I'm now getting in hand.

I’m actually fine with it. I don’t spend tip money except for odds and ends things that I don’t want to use my credit card for. I want to put it in the bank but the closest location closed and idk where there’s another branch so it doesn’t bother me much.

If we weren’t in a pandemic I’d agree that “fun money” is nice but I can’t go to concerts which if we’re being real is where a lot of my tips went (merch, bus fare, Lyft tip, etc) so since I’m not spending it at shows I’m shopping online and I’d rather have a little boost in my bank account so I can still pay off my credit card but still not spend my whole paycheck on my credit card bills and rent.

From the way my SM explained, it’s Starbucks way of crossing t’s and dotting i’s. The company reports .50 an hour in cash tips. This does not satisfy the IRS if they were to audit Starbucks due to the .50 an hour being inaccurate . If they were audited by the IRS they would not have a way to track every persons cash tips. Depending on your SM, some managers are going to enforce the reporting and others aren’t. It is mainly a more optional thing to do, it could result in a marginally bigger tax return since you’d pay taxes on the cash tips. I hope this helps!

Honestly I’m still confused

Through one of the Partner apps, I’m not well versed on which one, you would declare your cash tips made. This is because the shifts won’t have to convert the digital tips accumulated each day into cash. Therefore, the digital tips would be already factored into your paychecks, I believe, and you’d be taxed on it. The difference is Starbucks is encouraging people to input any and all cash tips they make each week, if over $20. It all falls back on trying to be more thorough to prevent an audit/make an audit easier. But due to how many partners Starbucks has it falls more to a personal preference/if a Store Manager will enforce having partners declare their tips in the system.

So we would declare tips each week? This isn’t an added thing that needs to be done during tax season?
cynicalkidclub 1 points 2y ago
I do believe it will be a weekly declaration, depending if you choose to do so. Although I’m not 100% on it being weekly so I’d recommend checking with your SM. I don’t believe it is exclusive to the tax season either

All income is taxed. Uncle Sam needs it’s take. And that is all
