firings for marking out evolution juices? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by bobaababyy
So I’ve been marking out the Evolution Defense Up juice for the past couple of months, my manager has seen me do it, and obviously the actual POS allows it as well. Today I stopped by a starbucks I’ve never been to before to grab markout and the barista at the window told me that Starbucks has been firing people for marking the juices out and she almost got fired for it, so she didn’t let me mark it out. When I asked she said it was new policy per a couple weeks ago. Anyone else hear about this/know of anyone who’s gotten in trouble?

No you can still mark them out as your food item. Unless you are marking them out as your partner beverage, you’re fine.

yea, that was my understanding as well! i specified that it was a food markout but they still seemed adamant it’s not allowed lol

Not that I’ve heard. I’ve heard baristas getting fired for taking advantage of partner mark outs.

I know it says on our off day we get 1 free drink and 1 free food item, but what if the system allows me to get a free item more than once and the barista automatically uses my markout? For example I went to starbucks about 3 times last Friday, first time at 6am to get a coffee and danish, used the markout on both. Then again around 1, got a coffee and grilled cheese, and the markout was allowed on both. Then a third time 30 minutes before my shift to get a tea and cookie, and once again the markout was allowed on both. So is that something I can get in trouble for?

if it becomes consistent, yes. the system doesn’t keep track of your mark out so it will allow it. it’s your responsibility to tell the barista that you’re only doing the discount.

I think it was more these baristas were taking advantage of their markouts. Using numbers to get friends, family, customers free or discounted drinks consistently, not marking out drinks during shifts. My SM said it’s more so we’re not being reimbursed for using our discount or free drinks. Using their partner bevs at the end of their shift to mark out 4 or 5 drinks, etc.

You’ll be fine. Your cookie and tea would count as your food and drink for your shift and the first one is your covid benefit. I think the issue was more that it was happening so often. POS is able to show who’s numbers, how often, on what orders, on what till, etc. my district cracked down significantly on enforcing these policies recently but partners at one store took advantage of those perks and it effected the rest of us. Can’t make my own food or drink anymore which is what annoys me the most.

My manager said imagine 1 partner from every store forgets to mark out their drink. That’s a lot of money lost. Not marking drinks or food out is considered stealing which is a fireable offense. These are rules we signed agreeing we would follow when we were hired so it’s not new plus we shouldn’t have been till sharing anyway.

You’ll be fine. If it happens once or twice you’ll be fine but if it happens 10 times a week then there’s an issue. Maybe just say to the barista ringing you out hey I used my covid markout already today. We have a partner from another store who comes maybe twice a day she just has to use her discount and for her drink on her second visit that’s all.

No, when I got hired in December my SM told me that we could get any of those packages drinks as our food mark out.
