Tik tok (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Conscious_Ad_8241
I don’t have a Tik Tok but I occasionally see videos of partners sharing secret menu drinks and WTF. It needs to stop doing this. Stop making all partners lives hell. Nothing drives me crazy like getting a drive thru order of a bunch of ridiculous drinks with so many alterations.

Tik Tik is destroying the world.

Damn I feel old. Lol
conniedew 133 points 2y ago
“I want a cotton candy Frappuccino “

We don’t have that on the menu, what is in it?

“I don’t know, that your job”

I don’t have to know Tik Tok drinks. If you can tell what’s in it I will happily make it for it.

“You stupid bitch, I get it here all the time, now fix it”

Sorry ma’am you can leave, be sure memorize all the secret menu drinks prior to your order
Conscious_Ad_8241 [OP] 76 points 2y ago
I had these girls searching forever for the drinks while they were ordering in the drive through during peak!! Then when they got to the window they decided to all pay separate. 😤😤😤😤
hailvy 30 points 2y ago
All blissfully unaware of the rage inside all of you
darkwolf523 25 points 2y ago
Fun fact. That’s not a tik tok drink. Most people just kinda forgot about it. F for the cotton candy Frappuccino
CloveFan 20 points 2y ago
Was that the vanilla bean frap with raspberry syrup? I vaguely remember ordering it in high school, but it wasn’t a thing when i got hired in 2018 lol
darkwolf523 7 points 2y ago
Yeah
iStealSharpies 2 points 2y ago
It’s secret menu, not tik tok. Still not on our menu so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
darkwolf523 1 points 2y ago
Yeah. I think people forgot it ever existed with tik tok drinks being popular. But really f for the cotton candy
ABVDRICEBV 19 points 2y ago
Except that was an actual menu item...
conniedew 21 points 2y ago
Whether or not it was at one point on the menu is a mute point. We have new baristas every week. We are not expected to know every drink that was ever made and if a customer truly enjoys a drink I would think they know what is in it.
ABVDRICEBV 2 points 2y ago
I disagree, that’s literally the point OP was making. Tiktok is ruining the partner experience
Bubblebutt217 3 points 2y ago
I would say catering to customers in a ridiculous amount is ruining my partner experience. Example: we have customers that just say “it’s me” and get angry if you ask them for their order instead of being all knowing. They also get mad if you have their order ready for them if they come everyday at the same time. In my mind, you’re a customer, not royalty. I shouldn’t have to plan ahead for you. I came from a store that didn’t cater unless the customer was awesome and still the customer would expect a newbie to ask their order and not get upset about it. My new store has a panic attack if they didn’t prepare the order and the customer is at DTW *E Y E R O L L*
Hyperioncorp 4 points 2y ago
Do you remember when? I’ve never seen it on the menu since I started working at Starbucks (2016) and even if I google it all I get are links to secret menu sites. If it helps I’m from a US store, I’d this was overseas then whoops
ABVDRICEBV 11 points 2y ago
No, I wasn’t there for it either! I lumped it under the Cookie Cluster, Unicorn, etc.. The other day 2 crusties (crustomers) came in looking for the Cotton Candy REFRESHER that a partner used urnex for and stuck on Tiktok. That annoyed me
Hyperioncorp 3 points 2y ago
Yeah, I don’t think cookie cluster was a thing officially? I know we had cookie crumble and maybe something in 2015 that was cookie themed? Not sure. Unicorn unfortunately was real, loved working during that :^)
A cotton candy refresher sounds nasty and I’m sorry you had to deal with that!!
irritablegarlic 1 points 2y ago
It wasn’t urnex, it was blue gatorade and mango dragonfruit refresher.
misslyss231 6 points 2y ago
So to debunk, yes all these were a thing. I think it was circa 2015? But they were pulled from the secret menu and marketed for a full summer. The sick bastards rolled out that campaign just in time for week long happy hour too 😭. The full list of frappes included the cotton candy (vb + r), cocoa cluster (cf + tn, cr & m drizz), red velvet (jcf + r), & lemon cake( the foulest of the bunch: lemonade + crm frapp. Used to curdle INSTANTLY.) I think that was it. Someone reply if you recall others. I think the cupcake frapp was on there too... But they hid all of them under the seasonal/other tab on blended.

Similarly to how the honey citrus mint tea went from the medicine ball online sensation and got its spot on the menu; Starbucks will frequently pull in fan favorites from socials and rebrand them as their own idea for major $$$.
zydr8te 1 points 2y ago
Pink drink represent
Hyperioncorp 1 points 2y ago
Yeah, I didn’t remember since I started in summer 2016, not 2015 (shoutout to caramel waffle cone!). That sounds horrifying to work though, thank you for clarifying!!
theacesm 2 points 2y ago
It was discontinued in 2018, not sure why everyone on here thinks it was sooner🤷🏼‍♀️

If you go onto partner hub (only from an in-store computer) there is a page with recipe cards for discontinued drinks and it can be found there. The card had cotton candy and cupcake both cause they're vanilla bean Frappuccinos with raspberry or hazelnut respectively.

(Edit to add: they stopped really advertising them before 2018 but they weren't officially removed from the menu until 2018)
whiteboimatt02 5 points 2y ago
Gotta be honest with you I have never seen a grown woman order the cotton candy Frappuccino like here it’s only young kids and truck guys like no in between just those two groups get the drink here😂
TheDoctor88888888 3 points 2y ago
Literally had this same thing happen today. She started laughing at me for not knowing how her bs drink was made and I was just done
TheRedditTeacher 95 points 2y ago
Tell me about it. They're requesting Sweet Cream Cold Foam, but we don't even know what it is in European stores....
Conscious_Ad_8241 [OP] 59 points 2y ago
I’ve gotten requests for drinks from other countries and then they are upset I can’t make it.

Sweet cream foam is the devil
scubadoobydoo131 39 points 2y ago
Someone tried to get me to make a “candy floss” frappuccino. They made me watch an entire video just to find out it’s white mocha and raspberry. On top of that, it was a video from the UK and it said that it was a UK STARBUCKS IN BOLD LETTERS. So I had to tell them it’s not going to look the same because US stores don’t have dye in the raspberry anymore and this person was in the UK so it wouldn’t be pink, and they didn’t want it anymore 🤦‍♀️.

*Edited for spelling mistakes lol
throwawaygarbage3333 25 points 2y ago
i wouldve just slammed some strawberry purée in there to make them shut up LMAO
Bryancreates 19 points 2y ago
The “cotton candy” frap got a lot of dirty looks after they removed the red dye from the raspberry (since it’s was made with beetle extract and people complained) so it became a clear syrup.

Also to add: the birthday cake pops were white for awhile during the transition, and people didn’t like it. Jesus people. Speaking of Jesus I should’ve just had a stigmata since making Frappuccino’s is payment for my sins obviously, a couple drops of blood would’ve colored it just fine.
Fesha85 7 points 2y ago
My daughter was so happy that the dye got removed because she's allergic to it.
Tylandredis 14 points 2y ago
omg i knew something was up. i had a raspberry frappuccino in paris once and it was pink, and i ordered a matcha latte with raspberry here and fully expected it to be doodoo green from adding it but it looked the same. so interesting
draahstopter 41 points 2y ago
There are also partners posting videos about the new drinks launching next week. Which, I could be wrong, but I think could get you fired. They’re showing people how to make the new brown sugar espresso drink and different things to put the brown sugar syrup in. I really wish there was a way to ban tik tok. And the worst part is that people think they’re being quirky and cute when they say “hiiiii so I found this drink on tik toooook” 🙄
plushiequeenaspen 17 points 2y ago
Yes, it can. Releasing information about upcoming products is a violation of the "confidential information" part of the contract/social media agreement. If a customer asks something like 'hey I heard about X drink' then you can tell them when it launches, but you can't post on tiktok the step by step how to make it, and you're not supposed to share pictures of mugs/tumblers and such either.

They haven't really cracked down on it yet because at the moment it's free advertising and as far as I can see not much harm is coming from it (from a corporate perspective). But all it takes is one or two people crossing a line or releasing something really serious for there to start being consequences for violating the policy.

$1 It's not the exact one in the partner contract, but it's the closest I could find available to the public. Confidentiality of proprietary information is a huge deal for most companies.

*Edit to fix link*
draahstopter 3 points 2y ago
Oh wow. This is actually really helpful. Thanks!!
chateauduchat 1 points 2y ago
I think the link is dead, sorry
plushiequeenaspen 2 points 2y ago
I'll fix it when I get home
P_2_P 5 points 2y ago
We had this woman come in through drive and was like

“ can I get iced matcha, but I like to order it a bit differently.”

She went on to say,

“So it’s a grande iced matcha, but with 2 pumps of chai added in.”

Without trying to sound to mean, we all had a nice chuckle about it. Okay girl, you go ahead and order your super unique matcha
ShannyES 3 points 2y ago
I would’ve responded “that sounds like it would taste like the moon!” Just so she knows I’ve heard it and made it before. Girl... just go.
P_2_P 1 points 2y ago
Or even better when they pretend they haven’t already ordered/memorized the drink before they come in. So they play coy while ordering
Willowstorm9 29 points 2y ago
I refuse to make a tiktok drink if they don't have the recipe. I don't have tiktok myself nor am I willing to watch a video just find out the recipe for it.

If they can't take the time to write down the recipe, I'm not going to waste my time to make some dumb drink that was wrong when it's handed off.
DefinetelyNotaRobott 3 points 2y ago
Yup!
feverishdruid 14 points 2y ago
I just ask if they know the recipie, when they sheepishly say no they typically get the point of then it isn't happening
canidieyet_ 12 points 2y ago
I saw a video on tiktok once and it was a barista who was recommending the new drinks and all the baristas in the comments were telling him to delete the videos so he doesn’t get in trouble, and called everyone who mentioned it was against the rules a “karen”...and the non-baristas were whining that we were just “lazy” 🙄 and like, when you get fired for showing the spring launch menu don’t make a video crying about it bc we warned you lmao
Turkey-Air 10 points 2y ago
secret menu doesn’t exist and it’s so annoying when people think we have a “secret menu”
Webshooter38 10 points 2y ago
New concept. Make the price of the drink go up exponentially as you add more customizations so that it will discourage this. Then donate the extra money to something so that the public isn't as upset with the increase in prices
NervosaNervous 4 points 2y ago
Donate the extra money to the CUP fund.
QueenOfTypos337 7 points 2y ago
i have had to explain to so many people that we dont have a “twix frappe” and stuff like that. we also have people taking tik tok drinks and then adding even more to them. i hate it all sooooo much
HippieShit8888 3 points 2y ago
Also I wonder when they find the time??? Unless my store is abnormally busy I never have time (even when closing) to film a tik tok
andrewcbrl 1 points 2y ago
Tic Tok is making the company big money with all the up-selling! Why would someone pay 7+ dollars for a drink? Because it’s a Tic Tok drink. The company isn’t complaining. This drink adds hours to the schedule for the week. Thank you for the hours Starbucks!
charlenebean 1 points 2y ago
Damn.. I feel this BAD. So annoying!
rio8envy7 -4 points 2y ago
There’s nothing we can do about it. Tiktok exists and we can’t stop people from sharing drinks. It doesn’t matter if it makes our lives hell they don’t care. There are things you probably do that drive other fast food or restaurant workers nuts and hell.
kanyon01 6 points 2y ago
Why are you even here
lalaland_lauren 2 points 2y ago
Dude, they’re right. As baristas we’re supposed to embrace the creativity of “handcrafted drinks”. I know it can be annoying to be expected to make things that we obviously don’t know, but fuck, it’s the customers money and our job to do so.

Don’t bash on someone and ask them what their purpose is in this sub just because you don’t agree. Anyone downvoting their comment is a pussy too and should just quit if they hate it that much. There ARE other jobs out there, believe it or not.

I saw the reply. Jobs are always going to be difficult no matter what, that’s why it’s a *job* not a career. Additionally, they make the shift harder, not your life.

However I never said anything about “you guys can’t complain in this sub” you’re right anyone can vent, and that’s what u/rio8envy7 did and you start saying “why are you here”. Just because you don’t agree with their opinion, doesn’t mean you can essentially condescend them.
