coffee scoops (self.starbucksbaristas)

So we’ve got a new gm and she is swearing up and down the measurement is 2,3,4 for coffee. when we all know for sure it is 1,2,4. she is lying about it threatening to write people up if she catches us not doing 2,3,4 even swore that it was updated to 2,3,4. we’ve even had regulars complain abt the coffee being way to strong when we follow her measurements. So are we wrong? is it 2,3,4? even tho it makes no sense at all? if not what steps should i take because i don’t feel like getting a write up for something she was wrong about 🙃

I think she’s mixing up the scoops for pour overs with the scoops for the regular brewer. Why is she so adamant on trying to force this instead of listening to what every person around her is telling her 😭

she was brought in by our dm. apparently they worked together before they even worked for starbucks. we’re kinda screwed no matter what we do here 😅

Omg people at my store keep telling me to do 4/5/6 for pour overs and I’m like yaaaaaaaall
temporarynothings 2 points 2y ago
at least your store has an idea for how many scoops in a pour over 😭 mine legit just tells us “do what feels right” like??? what feels right is doing the right measurements 🤚 so thank i for this comment thread so i now know how to do a ~proper~ pour over

The black spoodle for whole beans right?
1/4 batch 1 scoop
1/2 batch 2 scoops
Full batch 4 scoops

I was trained this way in 2015/2016 and came back 2019 and was trained the same way again.

Update: I asked my dm today and it all depends on what your machine is programmed for. Some are 3 for a full and others are 4 for a full

Interesting...

Love the word spoodle... and this is how I was trained too

It's 50% spoon and 50% poodle!

I love it too lol any excuse to use it and I will. I’m confused by some other comments saying they can’t do four scoops cause it won’t fit? I thought all Starbucks had the tall coffee grinder and the big cube coffee urns. They can definitely fit a full batch of coffee.

this whole thing confused me even more 😂, i thought we all used the same equipment but it doesn’t even sound like it anymore.
Abrakadanni 1 points 2y ago
Yeah uhm we do full batches daily and they always fit? We do have a small urn for blonde that sits on the counter and not on the warmer/brew station, maybe that’s what they are talking about???
USplendid 2 points 2y ago
Regionally, the coffee brewers are calibrated differently. For any number of reasons.

So, depending on where your store is located and when it was last serviced/updated, it could be calibrated to any number of scoops. Ours is currently 1/2/3. The store down the street is 1/2/4.

The DM has a calibration key and somewhere on the machine (possibly worn away with time) there should be a *something* that tells you what the current calibration is.

I thought it was 1/2/3 for brewed coffee. Like for Pike and Dark you use the black handle scoops and for the blonde you use the blue handled scoops. From what I was taught it was 1/4 batch is 1 scoop, 1/2 batch is 2 scoops, and Full batch is 3 scoops. And i honestly don’t think four scoops would even fit😂

I'm baffled because if we're talking about the bunn brewer, it literally can't fit any more than 3 scoops. Even with three scoops it likes to barf grounds into the urn half the time! I don't understand how this clown manager of your is forcing you to stomp 4 full scoops into it, this is awful and hilarious... I'm so sorry for you!

Are we talking about the brewer coffee? The pour over? Which coffee brewer we using? I have so many questions.
helpmeplz219 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
not pour over just our main grinder we use for 1/4, 1/2 and fulls.
Willowstorm9 1 points 2y ago
I know for my bun brewer, we do 2 and 3. We can't do anythinf but half or full batches and no one has complained.

Are you using the right scoop? Also, totes not saying you're in the wrong. The customer should kinda tell you what is good and bad since they consume the coffee, not you.
