Every time I feel like I’ve had my worst day at work, Starbucks somehow finds a way to make the next one worse(self.starbucksbaristas)

Anyone else absolutely fucking SLAMMED today because of that stupid mobile coupon? Like hello??? I sincerely feel every day more and more like Starbucks corporate couldn’t give less of a fuck about their overworked, underpaid wage slaves. BuT yOu GeT 10 aN hOuR nOw So ItS fInE
All the other stores around us “mysteriously” closed so it was our 3 person cafe store against a tirade of mobiles before we had to beg our manager to turn off mobiles because since were east coast, we’re out of EVERYTHING still because of Texas storms.
Left 10 minutes early bc there was no way in hell all three of us could get a lunch so I just sincerely didn’t want to trigger the system by staying 6 hrs 15 mins.

They apparently didn’t notify any store managers about it

That makes me not pissed at my manager at least. But oh my god what the HELL corporate?
bee16209512 points2y ago
It was in the weekly update, so they at least knew about it at the start of the week

As a relatively new barista I am absolutely dumbfounded by how incompetent Starbucks corporate is.

Omg!!! We had SO many mobile orders with barely any baristas! It was hell. And our manager refused to turn off mobile orders.

I kinda hope your manager runs out of Trenta cups on a really hot day when they’re the only one on bar

Corporate does not give a fuck about you, you are correct in that feeling. They literally told their shareholders to vote against having employee representation on the board; they don't want to hear about what actually goes on in stores. Company culture is dramatically different than it was even just three years ago.
Also, idek why some stores are even still open when they're out of nearly everything because of delayed and canceled orders.

We were told if we run out of espresso to just start putting dark roast in the hopper ;n;
I'm no stranger to corps who give absolutely no fucks about their workers-- the disgusting part is that SBX pretends it gives fuck to lure needy people into their stores, because they happen to have good benefits so people will put up with any bullshit just so they have health insurance.
color me unsurprised if it ever comes out that SBX had lobbied against universal healthcare, because if we got that I'm almost certain they'd be fucked.

Ok but why did every customer in drive through ask about the deal acting like they were going to get it right then and there? Why is it so hard to understand the details of a flipping coupon?!! Starbucks.. please do not label it as “buy one get one” when you get the free one a week later.
meloscav [OP]1 points2y ago
i'm lucky that we dont have a drive-through, although I did have one (thankfully polite) walk-in who wanted to do the coupon. She sweetly stood to the side and made her mobile order afterwards so i could ring people up

It kinda feels like Starbucks is circling the drain. I’m sure it’s not, but it’s weird how so many stores have closed recently. You say loads of stores around you have mysteriously closed, I heard another user say that too, and we lost 3 in my city last month. Then they’re trying to majorly boost business with insane coupons... This is odd.

well I live in a covid hotspot, so typically when i say a store is "mysteriously" closed or understaffed, I mean that they all got sick again and had to quarantine. But god, you're correct. They got rid of the "normal" happy hours but then corporate pulls this shit. I'm horrified how little the company seems to care about anything but profits. But that's good 'ol capitalism for ya. The only SBX in my city i know has actually closed was in a mall that also closed nearby. every other store is super slammed, and if they were going to close any other stores, it'd probably be our tiny cafe, but not before they built a drive-thru nearby.

this is so strange because my store was eerily calm. like, we got barely any mobile orders and hardly any customers came in. it was like a ghost town

Where on the east coast?
meloscav [OP]2 points2y ago
Not comfortable sharing the exact state or city, but it's a fairly large city on one of the coastal south-eastern states.

I’m just a customer.. I don’t see anything about the coupon on the app? My store seemed dead today when I went around 12:30..
meloscav [OP]2 points2y ago
It was an offer for 3/4 only, and it seems like for the most part most folks didn't show up until afternoon. I clocked in at 12:30 pm and it was normal up until about 1:45, and then we got slammed with every mobile imaginable, likely because most surrounding stores turned off their mobiles, thus making them all go to my tiny cafe sbx. The gist of the offer was that you bought a drink on 3/4, so you could get a free drink coupon later.
