i can normally tell when someone is trying to get a freebie over a genuine misunderstanding. if they seem genuine i usually just get them the correct drink because i don’t care if starbucks loses a few cents.

if they seem like they want a freebie/they’ve done this before or i CONFIRMED the size with them as DTO, i will charge them for the difference. to do this:

go into refund mode,
type in the small size drink (ex. tall strawberry açai),
exit refund mode,
type in the correct drink (ex. venti strawberry açai)

this will refund the small drink and charge them for the large one, essentially just charging them the difference. it will tell you how many cents the difference is on the screen.

Which option in refund? Didn’t want?
violetskies7 1 points 2y ago
yes we always use this option at my store. i’ve never really used another option lol

Haha I just didn’t know that’s how you can charge the difference.

yeah! i do it all the time because my store is really high volume and it’s hard to keep our pos updated with what we do/don’t have 😬

Ahh I would've never known about the refund thing. This helps so much! Ill have to do that next time someone doesn't seem genuine. I appreciate you!

yes no worries! it’s also perfect for if we are out of something. for example, a customer came in to get a sandwich, they paid, and oh no! my warming partner informs me that we are all out.

the customer decides they want a banana bread instead, which of course is cheaper than they paid. so i enter refund mode, refund the sandwich, exit refund mode, and charge for the banana bread. this way, i can refund the difference for them.
