Covid green beans (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Spamsparks_
We have hired so many new amazing green beans due to seasoned partners taking the covid leave and not being back to this day. Today while connecting with my store manager I was told how 60% of partners on the line chart (dcr) did not know the capacity of how busy it truly got pre covid. I nearly cried. They don't know what's to come with everything opening up and they can barely handle the increasing business we have at this point.

Your store got slower with covid?
arcanalalune 22 points 2y ago
Yeah this is definitely not what I've heard. I started working post covid but all of my coworkers who started before, and most of the posts on this subreddit have said that things have gotten way busier since covid.

Yeah they definitely got busier at my store. Cars lined up around the block and whatnot. It probably has a lot to do with location and dt or cafe store I’d guess

My store has always been the 2nd busiest in our district, the busiest one being close to the beach, and boy has it not died down. I started July 2020, so mid-covid, but all my coworkers tell me about how covid hasn’t slowed business by much. Our peak is always 2+ hours long.

Yes we lost alot of business due to local festivals not happening and snowbirds not coming in like they normally did.

We're an inland socal cafe store depending on business booming with snowbirds, coachella, stagecoach, and the bnp paribas. With short term rentals being a debate and even stopped because of covid we lost out on alot of money.

😂 Right! Mine got progressively busier due to other stores shutting down because of understaffing, partners getting covid, and partners taking paid leave. We literally had lines around the entire building all day every day from open to close & it was physically & mentally exhausting.

im one of those, got hired in august, and honestly am kind of scared. the hard part is i feel bad for getting overwhelmed when our lobby is busy and i feel like the seasoned partners hate me for not knowing what’s to come. sometimes we, as green beans, get really talked down upon and some people just gotta remember that they were in our position at some point too.

I am dreading when we go back to “normal” we just got a new shift from outside the company and she is struggling now after months being a shift how is she going to survive when we are back to normal?? The post covid partners that think its busy now, just wait.... When everything opens up and we can start open of inside and the schools around us (we have 3 HS just around us) comes in while we get hit by Ubereats and mobile order.. then we will definitely have some melt downs...
I just hope we got the new ovens and bars before that.

I hope they can take the heat! We’ve picked back up to pretty much normalcy and weekends are KILLING us. We’re perpetually a person short at our store too, and on top of it all we’re out of all refreshers except mango, strawberry purée, nonfat milk, and god knows what else

When I started in the mid summer, I was definitely shocked because I had no idea what it was like to work at starbucks and I was excited and nervous. Three covid closures later and I am a bit jaded but happy. One thing I will say though is that on hard days that are slammed, under staffed, and tense, I question how worth it everything is but partners who have been there since before covid tell me that this is NOT the starbucks experience. I am hoping that that is at least partly true but we shall see :/

Tell me you’re an SM, without TELLING me you’re an SM! 😂

I promise I'm not. I spent too many years working in a toxic industry (casinos) that led me to cognitive behavioral therapy. Im just working on empowering myself and hopefully sharing that with others. Of course there are exceptions but I believe we have the power to shape our mindsets and therefore our experiences.

* just wanted to add that if more SM worked towards what I talked about then I believe that a lot of these problems wouldn't exist.

Haha it definitely sounded like something a freshly promoted/hired manager might say (I’ve head mine say it multiple times). Also I hear ya on the CBT, my therapist has been pushing it on me every time I meet with them lol
