Tips For a Green Bean? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by SpaceBunny_X3
Hi Guys!

So my first day is March 15th and I’m super excited but also nervous. I’m looking for some tips that could make my training and working at Starbucks a bit easier.

Really anything you wish someone could have told you when you started off. ♥︎

Breathe. It’s going to be ok. You’re going to make mistakes and you’re going to annoy both your partners and customers and that’s ok. It’s normal. You’re going to have anxiety and feel overwhelmed but again that’s ok and normal. Everything you feel is something everyone else has felt. If they say otherwise they’re lying. Accept help when you get it and never be afraid to ask questions whether you think they’re stupid or not and help when you need it.

When I started I thought everyone was really mean but came to learn people are just stressed when it’s busy and not to take things personally when you’re being swarmed my customers

It’s okay to not know what you’re doing and to make mistakes. If I make a mistake I’m normally our front of about it with a customer and assure them that we’re fixing the problem for them.

Communicating with customers is also really helpful for keeping them happy. If you’re on window and get their drinks out but are waiting on their food I let them know what they’re still waiting on and that it will be out in just a minute.

You’ll have rude customers for sure as with any job. Just take things in stride, apologize offer to fix the item/make it better for them and get them out of the store.

Learning the job takes time. You’re not expected to know everything in the first week or month. It’s a constant learning process. If you don’t know how to do something at any point just ask

I hope everything goes well for you!!!!!

(I also have screen shots of some cheat sheets saved in my favorites section in my photos on my phone. If I can’t remember something like that I’ll check real quick to make sure I have the right number of shots/syrup pumps/whatever else.)

omg congrats!!!

Most helpful thing I've learned is to take it one drink at a time. When theres a rush or some obnoxious situation, deal w it as it comes ya know. :))

Good luck I'm sure ur gonna do great <3

There’s been a few people who have posted cheat sheets in here to remember shots and pumps of syrups for the different size drinks. I would look that over or look over the different quizlets that people have created. Once I got the hang of that, my training and first days on bar were much less overwhelming
