The only thing I can tell you is ASMs are salary management and don’t get paid an hourly rate.

In corporate US stores (afaik), ASM is basically store manager-in-training. Once training is complete, the ASM waits for a SM opening and then they take over that store as the SM. Or, the ASM will fill in at other stores if that manager is on vacation/leave, or if the store really needs help. ASM is not a permanent position.
ASMs are not yet salaried. They get paid hourly until they get their own store. The pay increase is pretty significant, and it depends on location/store volume. I’m pretty sure my store manager makes upwards of $50k a year, probably more. An ASM will make more than a shift but not as much as a SM.
The SM training the ASM basically acts as a shift, so the ASM can get hands-on training making schedules, inventory management, store schematics, deployments, etc. The SM should help/advise as necessary, but the goal is for the ASM to manage the store independently.

I am actually starting food management next week also. I was told it would be IMS- creating pars, inventory, etc. Might be different for you.
