hey guys! i just got a job at starbucks and i’m really really really nervous. i’ve never been a barista or done any kind of food service, so i’m not really sure what to expect. i was wondering if anyone could tell me a little about what the job’s like, or if i should be super worried about training, or just any tips you may have 💓 i would appreciate it so much! hope you all are doing well :)

I got hired a few months ago and I love working at Starbucks! Don’t be worried at all and don’t hesitate to ask questions! Your trainer (& other baristas) are there to help you :) You might feel like it’s a lot at first, but don’t give up. You’ll get it! 💚💚

Really the best advice I can give is don’t get discouraged if it seems like it’s taking you a while. Especially if you’re new to food service, remembering all the drink recipes, button placement on the cash register, etc can seem like a lot. Just keep going, ask questions if you need, and you’ll get it down quicker than you think. Obviously it depends on the store, but usually it’s a super friendly and helpful environment and there’s not much to be worried about.

First of all I love this job (but it’s frustrating as hell sometimes). To become a strong bar partner you gotta ask you SSV “can I have some bar time today” a lot because if you don’t they’ll usually only put the people who are already strong on bar. And DON’T INVEST TOO MUCH. Don’t overwork yourself or go above and beyond without getting paid for it, it’s not worth it and it’ll suck the joy out of the job, do your job and enjoy it, but don’t do more then you need to. I used to do that, and since I stopped I really started loving this job again.

I just started a week ago and these things helped me: get some pens and sharpies for your apron pocket, don’t hesitate and tell a customer you are new or still learning so it may take a moment and thank them for their patience, download one on the great cheat sheets on here in case you don’t remember pumps or something and other baristas are busy. Also try to not have so much caffeine too quickly or you’ll become very dependent on it. Also hydrate and eat enough, that’s hard to do but helps a lot.
