My second time opening, on daylight savings, in a blizzard, with hardly any product(self.starbucksbaristas)

Capitalism is a prison. Our delivery got canceled because of the snow so we basically only have pastries and espresso drinks. No venti cups, refresher juices, nonfat milk, or breakfast foods. But we still had to show up here at effectively 3am with not a single road plowed in the town. Send good vibes y’all it’s gonna be a long one
Update: had to drive in the blizzard to pick up product, which we have not even used. Could hardly make it across the street. Have been cleaning for the past 5 hours. I hate everything.

I find it ironic that the delivery didn't happen due to snow but you're expected to be there.
Good luck! I found snow days pretty decent, was quieter than normal, customers were cool and it was pretty cozy. Just watch out for cars getting stuck in your parking lot!

I'm sorry dude, I'm in Texas and when we got our whole foot of snow last month shit got shut down quick. We stayed closed the whole week.

this happened to our store as well. we had more of a problem with ice but all of the baristas called out and ssvs were expected to still come in and run the whole show. it’s unfair and completely backwards to expect people to drive in those conditions, especially when stores can’t even get their deliveries.

This happened to my store. My manager had to pick me up to open since I wasn’t comfortable driving and couldn’t find coverage, and when I got in there was no delivery. It’s been painfully slow all day (we started afternoon and closing tasks around 7:30 am) and I don’t get why we didn’t just close.

today was my first day in the morning and i’ve only been here for like two weeks and usually sundays for us aren’t that busy we have a normal peak but nothing insane, but i don’t know what happened it was busy from 9am-6pm, constantly

You‘re lucky haha Sundays have always been the busiest days at the stores I’ve worked at.

This is crazy for me because I live in Arizona so the worst we have is heat advisory days where staying outside for more than 10 minutes is enough to cause you to collapse.

Oh, yeah, when the Texas blizzard happened (and our own) and we got no deliveries, we were most definitely there every day telling all the customers no. It was kind of fun to get creative with the few syrups and things we did have, and lots of people were really glad we were open at all. Mostly healthcare workers who also had to get out and go.

im not sure if you’re still working but i hope you made it through and got home safe! it’s awful that they make you work in conditions like that, when even the delivery company got to close!

I live in MN.

same... ive spun out twice trying to get to work in the snow because god forbid we come in one second late when there is 3 feet of snow and ice coating all the roads 😂 never once has starbucks been understanding of it which is the stupid... because we live in the north we should “expect to be facing difficult weather” 🙄

You must be in colorado, yeah?

If the roads were that bad you should've just called off and the store would've been closed.

Dunno why you’re being downvoted honestly. My manager once tried to force us to come in the morning after a literal ice storm (when it had already been sleeting for the three days prior and the roads were bad enough then) but I talked to the baristas I was opening with and we all told him we weren’t comfortable coming in. Store didn’t open until the closing crew got there and by then the roads were clear, thankfully. Also managed to get an earlier closing time the day the ice first started. The roads were covered in ice overnight but we still opened for some reason and my manager said we (the closers) would be fine to come in because the ice would melt a bit by 1. We said we weren’t comfortable coming in since the sleet was gonna get WAY worse at around 5pm and the only way we were comfortable coming in was if we closed at 4:30, so we did.
Organize your labor.

Yeah we've had days where the weather was so bad that driving into work would be putting your life in danger. At that point, you do not need to come in. I've called pcc before to verify that you won't get written up or in trouble.
cilantroprince2 points2y ago
i’m always terrified to do that because we live in the north and snowy/icy days are common. but i’ve gotten into literal panic attacks driving into work because it’s so slippery. is there an actual code that states you can’t get written up for this?
iWantToBeARealBoy3 points2y ago
I‘ve called PCC about it too and they said it would really depend on your record thus far.
