Having issues with clean play. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by iiwinterkittenii
So our store is staffed well and we know what we are doing and our boss has us scheduled a clean play every sunday. Now most of the time we are really slow and slowly do it through the night so we get out early(and have everything done no complaints from our morning shift)

I have been told this is against policy but no matter where i look i cannot find the standards for cleanplay other than cleaning whats in the book.

Does anyone know if one yes if these have to be done after close no matter what? Or where to find the standards.

As a note our play caller cards that gives us tasks per shift and daypart tells us to do most of our cleanplay tasks throughout the day everyday. Which means we can do some but not others?

Basically im looking for where i cam find the print or training saying "here is law and law is done like this"

The cards are kind of outdated. When Starbucks introduced clean play they had us use the cards through out the day. Hence why their is morning, midday, night, etc. Essentially (the way my store did it) was the cards would be split between 2 people and we would do clean play during down time and as long as the things on those cards were done it was fine. A lot of them are things we should be doing anyway clean play or not.

Then they changed it to where there was one section we would do everyday. Like Monday would be hot bar day where we got the bar sinks, drains, around the machines, hoppers, etc. we would still use the cards to make sure things were clean but their use kind of died down once they made clean play a once a week thing.

Answering in two chunks: first about cleaning. What stuff gets done, and when, can change based on the store. For example, I've done drains at open, at midday, and at close. Certain things (like morning temps) have to be done during their associated day part. But many tasks will be store specific.

As far as leaving early? Well, actually it's very much against the rules. If a person is scheduled to work they are entitled to the pay for those hours. Leaving early means leaving pay. If every partner on the shifts agrees, then it messes with store labor. Meaning, there's probably more that should have been done. There's never "nothing to do".
