ive been a partner since july of last year and i rarely get time on bar. these last few weeks, i’ve been on drive thru my whole shift (around 5 days per week) and it’s really exhausting. ive started to lose my voice recently due to it and they keep throwing me on drive. i feel like they don’t really want to give me time on bar because i don’t have “experience” but i worked at a smaller cafe before starbucks for around 2 years. so i definitely have the experience. i just don’t know what to do anymore :((( it makes me just wanna quit :(

usually they always tend to also forget to give me my 10’s and lunches whenever i have them :( it’s just wearing me out a lot and i’m only 17.

Voice out that you absolutely do not want to be there all the time. Partners are supposed to be able to work every position and you cant get experience if you do not try. Always go to the SM if the SSVs are being assholes, which is exactly what that is.

also, be vocal about your breaks. Whether they forget or are the type shift to not even want to run breaks. When I was a barista, I got real nervous about asking but most of the time it was an honest mistake. Now as a SSV, I encourage baristas to remind me about their breaks!

If you aren't comfortable advocating for yourself yet, you should practice now. Next time you go in for a shift, tell your ss you want bar time, or you want be in another position. It's okay to tell them you are feeling burnt out on drive. Definitely speak up if you're not getting your breaks. A "can I get my ten/lunch soon?" over the head set or when your supervisor is near by can go a long way. And if your shifts aren't receptive, talk to your manager. Especially with regard to bar time, managers love it when you phrase it like you want to improve and grow in that position. "SM, I want to get better at bar so I can work on creating quality hand crafted beverages for our customers, but I feel like I never get any time on it." Or something like that lmfao
