Holy shit. You landed an actual good sm. Hold on to that
SlippingStar27 points2y ago
They do exist! Mine was one of them, stood up to transphobic customers and actually made me not afraid of authority (have big authority fear issues).
thewizardsblizzard129 points2y ago
Friendly reminder from an sbux shift manager that your worth as a barista is not tied to your capability on bar.
kiimmytran60 points2y ago
🥺 i have a SSV that always throws me on bar to make sure i have enough bar practice
Turkey-Air11 points2y ago
haha on my 3rd day it was 2 people closing on the weekend and i was on drinks that whole day. 🥲
MilaDuke30 points2y ago
This reminds me of my SM he was so nice when I first started and trained me himself. He is so nice to the whole crew 😭
jhimothy24 points2y ago
I always get assigned on POS... later after a few months of being stuck at POS i spoke with my SSV and SM about bar time to get trained more... they told me we placed you on POS not bec your slow at bar but because you work great on POS... made me feel worthy... they did eventually give me more time on bar
crunchycookie282 points2y ago
same!!! but it’s still frustrating because I love bar LOL :(
rio8envy719 points2y ago
Dude I wish people had faith in me like that. I had to go to my ASM and manager for more bar time and I’ve been at that store for a year and a half and at Starbucks for 5 1/2.
horror_zeze11 points2y ago
awww good job!!!!!
imjustlonelylol8 points2y ago
I never get put on bar. 😢
slipperydish8 points2y ago
That’s awesome!! We love to hear it. My SM would say that she wanted to give me more bar experience and just never did...it was very frustrating
[deleted]6 points2y ago
Wow what a nice SM. Mine wouldn’t give two fucks either way lol
BuffyBoltonVampFlayr5 points2y ago
Right?
My SM was so abusive towards me (others too sometimes, but not anywhere near as bad as she'd give it to me, which was literally all day, every day) that I legitimately developed a chronic illness that I may possibly have to live with the rest of my life.
She tried so hard and put soo much damn effort into making sure I was miserable. It was her way of trying to push me out. And after almost an entire ass year, I finally couldn't take it any longer. 2 weeks ago she finally won. And for the sake of my own mental well being, I had to sacrifice the most money I've ever made (by well over 4 fucking dollars) and the best benefits I've ever had.
I really wish this company would take serious complaints made my it's employees, ya know... seriously... cause that woman should absolutely NOT be in a position of authority.
tl;dr **DON'T EVER TAKE EVEN JUST A SEMI-DECENT, FAIRLY OK, KINDA ALRIGHT SBUX MANAGER FOR GRANTED BECAUSE THE CHANCES OF HAVING ONE ANY BETTER THAN THAT ARE ASTRONOMICALLY FUCKING LOW** 😊
cringeqween13 [OP]3 points2y ago
She started at the store a little less than 2 weeks before me
kxnkycxrly4 points2y ago
I’m crying for you my little green bean 🥺
PrettySax34 points2y ago
You are so fortunate to have an SM like that. My first store I worked at the SM tried to schedule me during afternoons to work bar and the adternoon SSV said she wouldn't let me touch bar until I had been with with the company for a year. I ended up moving later in the year and didn't get to practice bar until I moved. That was 4 months after I was hired and I spent the entire time in window until I moved
jams10153 points2y ago
Way to be, /u/cringeqween13! It sounds like you would be an awesome partner to work alongside. <3

Or Customer Support
BunnyKerfluffle3 points2y ago
Customer support is the gateway to learning a store and it's needs. Soak up that learning and keep growing!
MintyMint1232 points2y ago
Geeze and my SM chased me out of the store screaming at me calling me sick because I have a disability
Meduka__2 points2y ago
A decent manager really does make or break any job. I quit my job at the hospital to come back to starbucks as my main job because of management
HippieinBlack2 points2y ago
Wow, your SM is so nice.
cringeqween13 [OP]3 points2y ago
She started at the store about 2 weeks before me and we're a busy store and understaffed most days but she's always ready to get on the floor and work with us.
HippieinBlack3 points2y ago
She sounds great! I love most of my shift managers but sometimes there’s just a lack of communication you know
