Promoted to SSV (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MacaronJolly
I was finally promoted to SSV after about a year and a half at my store.
I’m really excited to lead our team and help improve our store. I love my coworkers and I really hope I can make their shifts good ones to the best of my ability.

I always knew I was taking on more responsibility for not that much more money, but when I was told the starting rate in my state.... I was so underwhelmed.
I really wanted the position for experience to be able to put down on my resume in the future, it wasn’t really ever about the money for me, but damn.
We deserve more than that and it really makes me sad that we’re valued so little.
Yay, capitalism.

This is so relatable unfortunately. My SM asked me on two different occasions when we needed shifts if I would please step up.

I said heck no I value my sanity over a few bucks thanks. We ended up outside hiring SSV and it’s low key a constant shit show.

So I say to Starbucks if you want your star employees to become your star “leaders” you gotta actually give them a piece a pie.

Similar situation here. I’ve been a partner for almost 3 years and never pushed for a promotion until my manager outright asked me to do it. I officially became an SSV right when we had our corporate pay increase in January so my pay went up like $3 per hour.
Yeah, it’s a tough job but the right perspective can make or break it. I’m super lucky to have an awesome team and a manager who actively develops people and supports us.

I’m also lucky enough to have a great, supportive team and SM. Our SM has actively worked to develop me and I’ve always been very appreciative because we had a very shitty SM before our current one came around. I’m still excited about the position and I really enjoy leading my team, but my pay went up about $2 & some change/hr which is honestly sad as hell lol.
