"Excuse me, what did you just put in that"
"This isn't your drink ma'am"
"Oh"
LadyBearJenna 82 points 2y ago
"I didn't want whipped cream!"
"ok, I won't put whipped cream on YOUR drink, Karen."
medicinexx 20 points 2y ago
that’s when i go “what’s your drink? oh a mocha frap? well this isn’t yours.”
megs1288 [OP] 39 points 2y ago
This happens so much. I had someone say i was making their drink wrong and try to show me the recipe card they googled. I was like...yeah it’s because this isn’t your drink.
they-were-roomates 111 points 2y ago
I too, love to feel like a zoo animal while at work.
frogtheair 13 points 2y ago
Try to think of it more like hibachi and bow after

*loudly in the middle of rush when there are 20 people standing around the bar watching us make drinks*

Me to my co-bar partner: “you know what makes me really uncomfortable?”

Them: “what?”

Me: “when the customers stare at me like a hawk while I’m making drinks, thinking that it’ll make me go faster but in actuality just makes me extremely uncomfortable and then I go a lot slower because I’m nervous.”

Them: “🤣”
Honey_girl_ 63 points 2y ago
My favorite is when they see me finish a drink, & immediately walk up to the counter to watch me place it for mobile pickup.
SorryNewspaper 1 points 1y ago
I used to LOUDLY call out the drink when this happened. Making it even clearer, in case it wasn't already, that this wasn't their goddamn drink. So satisfying 🥰
KatCLed 57 points 2y ago
If it makes anyone feel better, I enjoy watching because some of yall are really talented and move SO FAST. I never watch to judge or correct or assume its my drink. Although trying to guess *silently to myself* if its my drink is fun also. I think it's fascinating, but I can stop if it makes yall uncomfy.
kiimmytran 45 points 2y ago
that actually warmed my heart🥺 but sometimes i get nervous when people watch. especially when i splash whipped cream on my face and the rinser shoots me in the eye
megs1288 [OP] 21 points 2y ago
You’re good, I just found it funny. Just feel the room lol. If the barista starts messing up..you’re probably making them nervous
medicinexx 17 points 2y ago
no it’s okay, ask long as you aren’t leaning over the bar it’s okay. it can be really anxiety inducing when the whole lobby filled with ppl are staring at you though 😅
spicypotatogurl 5 points 2y ago
I've had a few customers tell me this over the years! It always makes me so happy to hear 🥺
emrosepal0101 37 points 2y ago
there have been a couple of customers recently who assumed that their drink is the one on the drink stand BEHIND the covid protection plastic, and they reached their hands past it to grab it. and when we inform them that they can’t do that, they’ll just stand there and stare at us like we’re lying
bigghostb00ty 23 points 2y ago
That siren logo on the apron is hilarious
official_koda_ 14 points 2y ago
People wanna be staring at their phones literally all the time except when they’re at Starbucks. Like PLEASE look at your phone and not at me! It’s especially bad when it’s a whole family just standing by the end of the bar staring at me, and not even talking to each other. Whyyyyy
FfierceLaw 11 points 2y ago
Lol the way the guy’s shirt is open and he looks so longingly. I’m on front/warming and mobile customers come to me for their order and I oblige and go down by the bar to look, I invariably find their name on stickers on the counter. Not the baristas fault, we’re just that busy
jhimothy 10 points 2y ago
If i get watched making a drink and somebody asks what i’m putting on the drink... i ask what is your name mam??? And if they say a different name... i say out loud... oh this isn’t yours... yours is on the line.... and they go... oh... sorry... lol
megs1288 [OP] 10 points 2y ago
Same. I make it dramatic lol
Koalastars009 7 points 2y ago
When this happens I make direct eye contact while shaking their strawberry açaí with heavy whip cream and sweet cream cold foam. It’s a power move! They usually look away.

talixsims 7 points 2y ago
this is another reason hot bar >>> cold bar at my store, hot bar is facing out and they can’t see what we’re doing but cold bar your back is facing the MOP & cafe hand off station, they can see everything, i hate it 😭
megs1288 [OP] 8 points 2y ago
That’s crazy though. I feel like people watching me on cold bar would cause more panic lol. “Can you add more caramel?” Lol I mean isn’t half the bottle enough?
talixsims 2 points 2y ago
there’s a bit of a barrier because of the plexiglass but yeah we usually get stuck with the stupid questions 😭
RoaringDragonite 5 points 2y ago
Ah. But on cold bar I get to turn my back to them and pretend I can’t hear anything.
talixsims 2 points 2y ago
true, but i’ve only been working since august, it was pain learning on that cold bar and having customers watch me mess up and have to start over, especially if it was their drinks 😭 besides, they usually just wait until we turn around to hand off a drink or pour cold brew to ask us things. especially when we’re insanely busy and they’re asking “where is my drink?” bitch i don’t know, somewhere in the sticker printer
sammiipiie 1 points 2y ago
Omg yup I just Do Not respond and then when I turn around I go “omg I’m so sorry were you talking to me?!? I can’t hear you from way over there!” Usually works lol
Loughiepop 4 points 2y ago
The two hours it takes to do a pour over is made even more agonizing when the customer is just standing there staring at you.
RevolutionaryWaltz62 2 points 2y ago
I absolutely love when I’m on drive bar and some Karen in the lobby is watching me and asking if I’m making her drinks right like, I’m not going to be the one making your drinks. Go away ma’am 😂
kxnkycxrly 2 points 2y ago
I’m a former barista and my partner stares and I just remind them of this meme and tell them it’s rude to stare and they stop. I got your back y’all.
BiscuitButterCup2 2 points 2y ago
I totally caught myself being this costumer today
Lonely_Witcher8403 1 points 2y ago
I stared this lady down after she touched a drink that wasn't hers. I called the woman it belonged to and looked at her before setting it on the counter so there was no mistaking who's drink it was. It wasn't even the same size as the woman who touched it. I was so pissed off. I handed her drink in silence when I was done making it.
brunette427 1 points 2y ago
I just like watching the process and skill.
AldiWillYouMarryMe 1 points 2y ago

Accurate
Rb2011xx -34 points 2y ago
Fine I'll just walk to the roof untill my drink is ready
FfierceLaw 29 points 2y ago
Look at your phone, look at the merch, bring a book, have a conversation with another customer. Just don’t stare at baristas working under tremendous pressure to crank out orders coming in three streams: drive through, the mobile app and cafe walk in customers. Every order makes a little sticker pop out of a little printer on the counter and your drink is probably still a sticker when you think it should be done
melancholia_planet 17 points 2y ago
Oh yes, please!
Rb2011xx -1 points 2y ago
And then jump off it
MenstrualKrampusCD 1 points 2y ago
Calm down with that edge. Or seek mental help if you're serious.
megs1288 [OP] 10 points 2y ago
No need to be dramatic. It’s a subreddit for baristas...if you’re not one or haven’t been one..you won’t understand
