I work at a Macy’s Starbucks not corporate so things may be different but today a woman came in and asked for a chai tea bag steamed with all soy milk excepting to get charged for a hot brewed tea and maybe the extra whatever cents for milk but my coworker who i personally agree with rang her up for a chai latte because she wanted all milk no water or anything and the lady SCREAMED at us calling us all sorts of nasty things. our boss and shift were not there and I don’t want to bother them in their little free time. were we in the right to ring a latte and not a hot tea?

I would have rang it in as a custom tea latte and explained to her why when she got that mad. If she hadn’t screamed, I might’ve changed it.

I did explain to her and she said we did it for her before... when we did it for her before my boss was upset we only charged her for tea

That’s when I would’ve said it was a one off and it doesn’t mean she’s entitled to it. I’m all about making the moment right but not when customers are disrespectful to the point of screaming. You don’t deserve that. :(

it was actually my coworker taking her order I just intervened when she resided her voice because with the way things are right now I did not feel comfortable letting a white woman scream at my coworker who is Asian. not happening.

Sounds like a custom tea latte, Chai, soy, no water no classic to me. If it's cheaper and the customer wasn't rude I would ring it in Chai latte sub tea bags (is there a button for that, though?) But it's definitely not a brewed tea if it's full soy no water and because she was rude I would never ring it up that way.

right! I never let my guard down if they are mean but if they’re nice I’ll bend over backwards to help them out.

There probably aren’t buttons for that. A non corporate store has a totally different system, often times its chaos. We ring up season drinks as White Chocolate Mocha espressos and refreshers with lemonade as vanilla lattes.

yeah our POS is messy

Definitely custom tea latte. Usually when people get mad at me about stuff like that I tell them I have to ring it up correctly for inventory :)

i have a regular that gets this. it’s a steamed milk, add tea bag! correct to charge that way if your POS has the add tea bag button.

Yeah it's technically a chai latte sub tea bags, but since she complained about it and said specifically 'charge me for a tea with milk' I'd just do it her way to calm her down
