We've never had any complaints about questions like that. As long as you don't ask about anything offensive or too personal you should be fine. We eve have someone who always asks customers what their favorite color is, most find it funny. And tbh as a supervisor I'd laugh if a customer complained about someone asking their factories color. You can always just play it by ear as well, only ask the customers who seem more likely to connect, or who are younger and less likely to complain
