Declaring Tips Question (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BluuBroom
So the new declaring tips policy sipped my mind and I missed a week, do you think I could just add the sum to my next submission? Or do I need to go through the process of calling the helpline and get it sorted that way. I feel like it shouldn’t matter since I’m still documenting tips over $20 but just not like immediately? I’m not sure lol please let me know what you think.

You can go back through the same system and declare them. Just click on the square by past week/pay period.

I honestly haven’t looked at it since it has to be done in the store computer (which is hella inconvenient).

I’ve been keeping a spreadsheet to enter quite a bit at one time. And I understanding correctly that this is ok- it doesn’t have to be done immediately?

If you’re going to declare your tips, you should probably try to do it at least somewhat regularly. I think there’s only like four weeks at a time that you can edit them yourself, without having to call PCC.

Definitely agree it’s inconvenient that you have to do it from inside the store though. It would be so much easier if you could declare them from home!

Ah okay because that’s what I want to do. I’ve been keeping track of my tips since they announced it as well. What’s the difference if I declare a big chunk every once in a while, it’s the same as if I let my tips pile up right?

no one at my store declares their tips lol

Did they stop covering the 50¢ an hour deal!? I wouldn’t claim tips when they’re always less than a buck
Anyway
rosesandthorns17 2 points 2y ago
i’m not sure what that is since i’m relatively new but there’s no point to claim these tips. no one at starbucks will know/care and we don’t make enough for any tax related repercussions. you’re just losing money declaring your tips
rio8envy7 2 points 2y ago
Uhhh you should be claiming tips. It’s not for Starbucks it’s for the irs
rosesandthorns17 3 points 2y ago
yea but we make so little in tips and the reason you declare them is so they can tax your tips. The IRS will not track you down over not claiming 15$ a week. it’s mostly for waitresses who make majority of their income in tips. Trust me, you’re just losing money lmao
rosesandthorns17 2 points 2y ago
that’s why i said we don’t make enough in tips for any tax related repercussions. i don’t know a single barista that claims their tips. you’ll be fine

You track them in partner hub so yeah they’ll know if you’re not declaring them.
rosesandthorns17 2 points 2y ago
except starbucks does not monitor it and will not come after you for not putting them in partner hub

You can adjust prior weeks in the system. The big thing is that they should all be declared by the end of the fiscal year. Declaring every week means only a tiny fraction is taken out for taxes every paycheck instead of all of it at the end of the year.
