I hate customers so much. I will address them really nicely and at a good time and volume and they will be dead silent. It’s so annoying. And I swear, every. single. time. i go okay let me know when you’re ready they perk up like 😐👋
or they’ll just shout their order into the box right off the bat. i find it annoying when my manager tries to push “gEt ThaT cUstOMEr ConnEcTion” how about get better customers. our frigging sucks.
Like maybe we should push good customers to use whatever platform exists to establish better customer connection scores.
E-hugs51953 points2y ago
My biggest pet peeve is when I'm still talking and they drive up
wifeypoopoo28 points2y ago
Yes driving away as I'm still talking! It's even worse because the microphone cuts you off. It makes me want to scream
E-hugs51931 points2y ago
"All right lisa your total is going to be 3.86!! And I will see you!!---" aaaannnd shes gone never mind fuck me and my nice voice I guess
canidieyet_9 points2y ago
People will do it mid-order at my store and then get pissed when their order is messed up
tbch924 points2y ago
“Aaaaand I’ll just go fuck myself I guess.” And then they have the AUDACITY to be annoyed when they pull up and don’t know their total?? Ma’am if you waited 3 seconds I would have told you.
Bubblebutt2177 points2y ago
This and when they hand you money and just drive away like “thanks for the tip? But so rude”
HollowRibcage5 points2y ago
Mine is when I say I’ll take their order in just a moment and they still try and tell me their order and I have to repeat myself and then they still don’t get it
happybowlita835 points2y ago
Yesterday a customer did that then reversed and when dto asked if they wanted to add something to their order they said "I'm waiting for you to tell me my total" 🙃
FfierceLaw3 points2y ago
We don’t have that problem, by the time they make it to the box they’ve been in a line that circles the building and they’re trapped! They have to hear us DTO them unless they roll up their window. There’s usually no space ahead of them to roll away
zach06053 points2y ago
we have a regular who will say his order then immediately leave bc he gets the same thing every time 😅
TheDoubleDan49 points2y ago
We now have to start the DT greeting by asking their name, so it usually goes something like this:
DTO: "Welcome to Starbucks! Can I get a name for your order?"
Customer: "Venti iced carmel macchiato."
DTO: "Okay and what can we get for you today venti iced carmel macchiato?"
Customer: "What?"
DTO: "What?"
ugh_yeahmetoo32 points2y ago
my favorite is
me: hi there, i'll be with you in a moment
customer: yeah can I get a \[blurts complicated order very quickly\]
sophaadoppe8 points2y ago
I can’t hold myself back I always go “I’ll actually be with you in just one moment.” Waiting for the day my SM hears it😂
Broccoli_In_The_Butt1 points2y ago
My shifts are the ones saying it for me 🤣

My store is cafe only, so many customers just blatantly ignore me when I greet them 😥 I know you hear me Linda, saying hello is not that hard 😭
honeykoala1518 points2y ago
Barista: Hey! Good afternoon ☺️ How are you doing today ma’am? Customer: venticarmelmachiatohotextracarameldrizzleextrashot Barista: 🙃🙃
FfierceLaw3 points2y ago
I think there was a movie in the 90s when Sbux was nationally a new hip sensation and it showed people spitting out their special drink orders fast like that and ever since it’s been a contest to see how fast they can say it, as if it will get them their drink faster
Used_Thought46722 points2y ago
We are part of a hotel at my store and people will straight ignore me when I say hi because they are just trying to use our bathroom. Like sweet baby Jesus I’m not going to force you to get in line just say hi back 🤦🏻♂️ I talk to myself enough as it is working here 😂
saddestgirl199518 points2y ago
You read my mind. It's the worst when the customers don't realize that I'm cashing out cars and taking orders at the same time like yo!! Hold your horses!!
AMarie-MCMXCI14 points2y ago
We have one customer that comes through and if we don't greet him within half a second he goes "hello?!" Bitch calm down, you just pulled up.
JammyMochi14 points2y ago
I get it. It sucks when I try to connect but the customer isn’t reciprocating. And that’s always the time the manager decides to see if you’re connecting.
Isaac_Ingram12 points2y ago
I hate when customers try to order from the passenger seat, especially when they then get upset with me for not being able to understand what they are saying.
Mom70022 points2y ago
We directly tell them we can't hear from the passenger seat.
Isaac_Ingram1 points2y ago
I should probably do that. I’ve just been suffering instead.
honeykoala1510 points2y ago
The get better customers part... I wish so much this were possible. Customers act like they’re at the four seasons. Like really I just want to be like.... maybe try treating service workers like people thank u
EspressoPatr0num9 points2y ago
It is the fact that we serve mediocre (at best) products, with a highly socially recognizable brand, at a high cost. Starbucks appeals directly to the douche demographic that wants to pretend to be of a superior class(not saying all, but most), when the only real difference between us and McDonald's is they aren't expected to provide a forehead kiss after being rudely dumped on.
moon_light5239 points2y ago
I hate whenever you tell them “hi I’ll be with you in just a moment” and then they start to order. If I’m working at a different place and have a headset I’ll say “hey they’ll be with you in a moment” and most of the time they’ll stop, but I don’t get why they don’t listen.
canidieyet_24 points2y ago
if i tell them more than twice and they still order, i’ll let them order as i finish whatever i’m doing and then answer with “Hi welcome to Starbucks! What can I get started for you today? :)” and they get PISSED
moon_light5236 points2y ago
I’ve done that before too 😂 honestly if someone’s gonna be an ass and not pay attention than they deserve it
sammiipiie1 points2y ago
That’s my FAVORITE thing to do 👏🏼👏🏼
Mom70022 points2y ago
They're definitely not paying attention and on their phone. I think if we say "I'll be right with you", they hear -you- and think you said how can I help You? I always say I'll be with you in just one moment and I enuniciate so they can hear properly. It usually works.
He11oboyo2 points2y ago
People have done this to me IN STORE while I'm clearly swamped making other drinks. Like, do you think I'm going to take your order five feet away from the register?
moon_light5233 points2y ago
This is always the worst!!! I remember one day some women kept trying to order from my coworker who told her she’d be with her in a minute. The lady started to order and my coworker ignored her, and when she was done where she was she went and then asked for her order 😂 the lady was pissed but my coworker just said “I was busy doing something else and told you I’d be with you in a minute 🤷🏼♀️”
He11oboyo3 points2y ago
Lmao that's so fair because it's her fault for being oblivious and not paying attention to the people who aren't her servants. I always just interrupt and look them dead in the eyes and say flatly "I'll be with you in a moment."
Bethbehz5 points2y ago
I have an issue where if you ask me how I'm doing I will immediately respond "I'm good how are you?" However, when I say this to a cashier that was just attempting niceties they stare at me because they don't know how to respond and it becomes awkward all around. Then I mumble out my order, pay, and proceed to run away.
Used_Thought46724 points2y ago
I love when people ask but some times when they are too genuine it messes me up because I’m not supposed to respond honestly when I’m actually having a shit day
FfierceLaw4 points2y ago
We’re just taken aback at your politeness! That’s ok, please keep doing it.
ShinyM4gikarp5 points2y ago
Or when you'll ask You: "Is it hot or iced" Customer: "Yes"
Or
You: "And what size would that be?" Customer: "Yes" 😤😤😤😤
bjorksbutthole3 points2y ago
today was my very first day training and i was plopped on drive thru and it was actually super fun bc my trainer was great but i can see how it would be soooo stressful to try and have a convo with the person at the window while having someone babbling in your ear and trying to get that order in the POS. there were a couple people who were sorta rude but most were nice. my biggest pet peeve honestly was people who spoke like mouses. I had to turn up my headset so loud but even then could barely hear sometimes. anyways, i’m still excited and look forward to interacting with more customers.
mrbubblegxm [OP]6 points2y ago
o babe it rlly only gets worse 😭 i’m like the main person on drive thru on night shift. for the past half year. make sure to tell them to speak up! and always read their order back to them. treating them like kids, politely, is such an effective strategy lowkey
bjorksbutthole2 points2y ago
oh good to know 😭thank you for the tip haha
finkenstein_2 points2y ago
Don’t let anyone else’s toxicity ruin your workday. Be it rude customers or burnt-out coworkers. I worked at Starbucks for 6 years in a high volume store before being promoted to customer. Some stores suck, but it’s never because of the customers. I loved working DTO. Often you are the first person someone talks to in the morning. And if they’re a dick to you, don’t take it personally. Some people are dealing with serious shit. And some people are just dicks. Don’t make it your problem. Starbucks is a stressful environment, but you work for an awesome company and you can learn a lot from working there. This subreddit is often a place people come to vent. Don’t let it taint your opinion of your job.
bjorksbutthole1 points2y ago
thank you so much. that makes me feel better and helps me think about how i should approach the job and the outlook i should have on rude people
AtTheBarMatt2 points2y ago
I never got trained, they just put me on window for a couple days and then moved me to dto for a few weeks. I went through an insane amount of passion flower those first few weeks and I was still having anxiety attacks.
arkkthealien2 points2y ago
I used to get in my feelings about it lol. Now I know they’re all trash and speak to them as the incompetent babies they truly are.
Civil_Flounder53232 points2y ago
a customer honked at me bc i didn’t say goodbye to them
juju4832 points2y ago
Ding
HELLO???!!!
Hi welcome to Starbucks, how are you doing today?
Yeah, can I get a......
🙃🙃🙃🙃
fvckmeihatethis2 points2y ago
or when they hold the card out the window w out looking at you and you’re busy taking an order so their hand is just out the window waiting for u to take their card
Alikkila912 points2y ago
Same here. I hate customers being rude for no reason. They are rude in the DT when you are nice, and after all there is the manager who pushes you to get that customer connection when all you want to ask them why they are so fck cash
ToolBoxArt1 points2y ago
When I was dto, I went through the "hi lemmy take that order" shpeal, and after a few seconds of silence, I asked if they needed any help still scilence... a few more seconds pass and now I'm at 40 sec. So I'm like " do you need any help?"-- and this person had the AUDACITY to tell me " I need you to be patient". Dude, I was so mad.
getreddittheysaid-8 points2y ago
Some of y'all are too extra. So many better things to complain about with Sbux.
mrbubblegxm [OP]3 points2y ago
