I'm new and the only one working (self.starbucksbaristas)

Is this expected? I work at a Starbucks kiosk in a grocery store. I'm still only two weeks in and the other person closing with me called in sick.

I didn't find out about this until I clocked in. When I told the grocery store manager (he hires people) that I am the only one he told me some bullshit.

He told me that a barista is supposed to be able to take orders and make three customers drinks at the same time by myself. He isn't rushing to hire more people to make up for how often people call in.

Does anyone else have a similar situation and would it really be that bad after I learn more? I would like to know so I can potentially look for a new job. I can't handle a big line of customers by myself very often it's so stressful.

I work at a tar bucks it’s honestly not rare I came from a corporate Starbucks but I was hired on with someone that had never had a job before and week 2 she was working by herself.... not a pretty close!

Bro I also work at a kiosk and this is my second week and I am supposed to close alone tomorrow lol, I’ve only helped close twice 😬

I worked at a tarbucks for 9 months before moving to corporate for that exact reason. I was a solo closer for nearly every shift I worked. Depending on how busy it is it’s definitely doable. (When it’s busy or even steady having to do the pre closing on your own is super rough though).

Technically since it’s your first two weeks (at least according to the target training not sure where you’re working) you’re not supposed to be left alone.

What your manager said is very very similar to what my manager would always say but expecting that speed and consistency from someone who has been there less than two weeks is unrealistic. Especially when you may still have questions/not know all the recipes or the steps to the close. And even if you do you just haven’t had the time to build up that muscle memory.

Definitely not rare but not a fun situation (this was the reason I went to corporate). I wish you the very best.

i work at a kiosk and alone is pretty common,,, i work weekends and i have like 4 5am-2pm alone shifts coming up that i am *not* looking forwards to

you’re the only person in the kiosk?? this is actually against starbucks policy, there should be at least two people on the floor for safety reasons, and in order to run properly there should be at least 3-4 people.
1 on reg
1 on bar
1 on customer support
1 on warming if you need it.
your manager shouldn’t be in charge of the starbucks honestly. that’s really against the rules.

This isnt a real starbucks though. Its managed by the grocery store but hopefully our rules still apply. You do have to have atleast 2 people working at all times. Tranafer to a real starbucks asap. You'll only get the worst side of the company at a kiosk.

Licensed stores are slow... kiosks are slow. Licensed stores don’t abide by corporate store rules when staffing. I run a licensed store and have a staff of 7 including myself. I open alone and my closet closes alone... that being said they are not The only person in the entire store. Right now with covid I can only have 2 people behind the line.

That being said— you need to find out who your DM is and let them know that you’re not certified (have you had 40 hours of training?) and that the grocery store manager has left you in tour own. It’s a violation
Of their million dollar license and it can be revoked. Grocery store kiosks think they’re getting away with shit but you just need to know enough about licensed store regulations

There is a whole slew of people who haven't been certified and working alone for months. Can I get a link? I want to bring it up in person. The grocery dick laughed at me and my line today.

Where you located? Might be able to figure out your DM that way

can I get a link to this? I want to bring it up. Even if the grocery store manager is a dick he should know how things are supposed to go.
