how can I get my GM to respect my availability?(self.starbucksbaristas)

when I signed up I told them I couldn't work more than 23 hours a week, they've got me on 35, every time I complain they cite us being short staffed, which is true, but thing is we've been "short staffed" for months now, and I can barely juggle my classes and work with this workload, I come in exhausted to work everyday and cranky and have to go home, immediately do schoolwork and pass out and start again, I'm sick of this, what are my rights to expect for availability?

That’s definitely not okay. They’re taking advantage of you. I’d recommend you bring it up to them and explain what the original expectation was and that with school and other things outside of work, you can’t do more than 23 hours a week. If they continue to be rude or seem to ignore your request, then I’d leave. It’s better to find a different location to work at then to keep dealing with being taken advantage of.

Yup. Print out transfer papers, cite reason for transferring being “availability”. That should get the ball rolling.

Change your computer availability to be available less
So for 23 hours, only make yourself available 3 or 4 days

I’d double check your availability in the computer too. I know when it ends so when I’m over scheduled, I find my manager, tell her she’s over scheduled me and I will be leaving at (whenever my availability ends).
They’ll try to guilt trip you, but I do night school and I’m on a tight schedule as is. My manager has to manually over schedule me on team works so once I found that out, I made HER responsible for finding that coverage. She doesn’t do that to me anymore or she asks. Which I hate to do, but definitely have to hold firm

they most definitely try to guilt trip me, and all the shifts and asm get in on it, and make it out like I'm being the unreasonable one, I've been in this freakin industry for 12 years now and I'm sick of this, which is why I'm in school in the first place, I'm gonna tell them my new availability and if they try to argue, say sorry, school is more important, if you try and schedule me more I won't come in for those shifts

Call your DM. This is not okay and you sort of has a duty to make sure the DM can check to be sure SM isn’t doing other stupid shit to other people too.
