Question about calling out (self.starbucksbaristas)

I’ve never called out of work before, so I literally have no idea how to go about this 😅
We’re supposed to be getting severe thunderstorms (60-70mph winds, heavy rain, lightning) overnight leading into tomorrow, and I work at 6am. It will still be dark out and driving in the dark is already difficult enough with astigmatism and a thunderstorm with extremely heavy rain will be hell and dangerous for me. Especially since nobody in my state knows how to fucking drive and I use the busiest highway to get to and from work.
If the weather is too severe for me to drive safely, would it be reasonable to call out?

I domt think they'll accept weather as a reason, esp "just a thunderstorm" (i realize thats not what's going on here. Severe weather and tracking it is a hobby of mine) that said, I agree with the other poster that your life is more important than the coffee if you don't comfortable or safe driving in it.

call in sick. your safety isn’t worth it. as long as it doesn’t become habit, one day calling out sick won’t get you fired or make your store fall apart

If they call in sick, won't they be out for 2weeks because of covid precautions?

not necessarily; it depends on your symptoms. they’ve changed protocol a lot. food poisoning is always a safe bet. just don’t say you have a fever.

just say nausea and that you think you’re gonna throw up if you work. say you’re not coming in bc you’re sick

literally the only time i would call out sick is if i can’t physically get up and go to work 😭

Call out sick. Starbucks generally doesn't consider weather a legitimate reason to call out unless it's declared as an emergency by the government.
