Advice for DTO? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by canidieyet_
I’ve been with the bux since August, and so far I love it. One of the biggest downsides tho is being the fastest person on DT because I’m there a looooooot.

The only problem though, is I talk extremely fast and extremely quiet. Tricky duo, especially on the headset. It’s not a “I’m stressed and need a minute” thing, it’s something I’ve done my entire life. It’s just the way I talk and I cant change that no matter how hard I try.

That being said, “Hi (Welcome to/Thank you for choosing) Starbucks! What can we get started for you today?” turns into:

“Hi! Well-uhhhh Welcome to Starbuck, what can get for you?” in a super rushed, winded attempt at greeting customers that sounds like gibberish 😭 I feel dumb every time but I literally just cannot make myself speak slower.

I know I can’t be the only one who struggles with talking too fast unintentionally, and any tips that could help me out would be immensely appreciated!!!

Honestly that’s why I try to find a short opening line like mine is “welcome to Starbucks, what can I get for ya” when it’s early I’ll put good morning in front. That way I don’t confuse myself but also customer connections is easier if you remember to be genuinely friendly so if I mess up I don’t care I’ll just laugh it off and try to get them to laugh with me and then back to business.

i agree, the shorter the better! i literally just say “hi there what can i get for you?” it’s pretty hard to mess that up. if i’m having a good speaking day i’ll say “hi there what can i get started for you?” lol

yeah my store thinks “hi! what can i get for you” is rude and unwelcoming 💀 which is absolute BS in my opinion

hahaha idgaf anyway. if someone takes my genuine, kind greeting as rude just because i’m not a robot, i do not care. take your business elsewhere i don’t profit from the store’s profits😬

customers aren’t the problem 😂 they literally do not care how we answer as long as it’s not a very unenthusiastic “what do you want”

my SM is a natural sweetheart and wants everyone to be the same way 🙄 girl i am the love child of squidward and the grinch

oof yeah i have the same problem. normally i’m pretty good in natural conversations but sometimes i put all rappers to shame with how fast i talk. i’ve really just had to focus on exaggerating and elongating each word, but towards the end of my shift when i’m sick of being alive, i’m like “tahfbforkehfjf”

Make yourself think about it in French first. That should sufficiently gum up the works enough to slow you down!
