Would I be able to work early mornings with only 2 months of experience? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by asparagus24-7
I am a high school student currently applying to Starbucks. Until summer I would want to work afternoons after school and any time during the weekends. Do your stores have new people work mornings or is it just managers? When does that second batch of employees come in? And what kind of shifts are given to the morning workers?

i’m not 100% sure what you’re asking. so i’ll answer a few general things.

you can work early mornings no matter how much experience you have. however, in some places, minors can only work certain hours (where i live it’s between 7am-10pm.)

you would definitely be able to just work afternoons and weekends! starbucks hires a lot of students for their closing shifts.

it’s never just managers- usually there are only one or two supervisors in store at a time. the rest of the staff is just baristas, no matter how new.

some stores are doing block scheduling because of covid, meaning there is a morning crew that all clocks out at the same time and the night crew comes in at that time to take over.

most stores do not do this. morning shifts at my store range from 5:30-9:30, 5:30-12, 5:30-2, etc. people come in at all times and leave at all times- your shifts will most likely be different every day. some of my shifts this week are 10-6:30, 12-8:30, 11:15-7:45, 11-4, etc. they are generally pretty random seeming times within my availability.

Hey, thanks so much for the info! It seems like when summer rolls around I inform my manager of my availability and he/she/they will be able to accommodate it nicely! (Like if I need to be off by noon for example)

yes for sure! you can actually submit your availability online on teamworks (where you check your schedule)

I opened on my first day out of training

I opened right off the bat. Kicked my ass for a month or so but got the hang of it fairly quick.

What kind of tasks does someone do in their first few weeks? Do we start on drive thru window or do we kind of just restock ice and miscellaneous stuff?

Hello, fellow hs student. Experience does not matter, look at your state’s labor laws by typing your state then child labor laws pdf. For example I’m in Pennsylvania, so I can open since my store opens at 5. If this were summer I can work 10 hours with a 30 min break at the end of the 5th hour of work and up to 44 hours per week and can volunteer for 4 more. I hope this helps!
