Anybody else have sore feet?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Red_Sweet_Tart
Hey guys, just thought I'd post this here even though it's not exactly starbucks related. I've been working food service jobs for 5 years and I think my feet have had enough. I usually wear non-slip shoes with memory foam on the inside but it doesn't seem like any shoes help. For about a year I wore Doc Martin boots (I know that was my own fault) and I think i was able to wear those because the store I was at had plenty of black mats lying around, but I'm at a new store where we don't have any of those and my feet are getting bad fast. Last night after my shift, I came home and a section on the bottom of my foot was numb. I'm part of the SCAP program so I feel like I can't call out for any shift so I can meet the 20 hours I need. I try to rest my feet as much as I can when I'm home but I'm an active person so it's hard to *not* be on my feet. I've also had a nerve issue in my back for years and that acts up when I'm on bar. I'm halfway through my shift and I just don't know if I can make it. Sorry if this post isn't allowed but I just wanted to vent to people who may understand what I'm going through. Thank you for reading.

Dansko clogs have saved my life, and my feet.

I had to do a double take to make sure I didn’t write this myself... I’m in the same boat with ya, I wish I could offer tips or advice but I haven’t really found anything yet that helps.

Ditto. Same story with numb feet. I have high arches, and I can FEEL my plantar fascia tendon tearing at the ball of my foot and front of my heel on both feet. I’m about to ask to go down to 20-25 hours instead of 30-35 and see if that helps, but that’s not possible for OP having to meet reqs.

Yo! I’ve got the same thing! Just straight up pain in my plantar fascia! Glad to know that it is the job causing it and not just me treating my body poorly

I have plantar fasciitis and what has helped me was getting some plantar fasciitis specific insoles for my work shoes! And compression socks!! Especially the compression socks, once I added those my foot pain is almost 0 and I regularly work 35-38 hour weeks

i wear doc martens with good insoles. the boots are good for work, dont wear and look decent for work.

Yes I liked the Docs, they've saved my toes from being smashed by fridges, and I never had to worry about ice/liquid getting into my shoe. I did get some insoles that were supposed to be "for work" but they still didn't help. I wondered if it was having a heel that made it worse so I opted for a non-slip from Sketchers. They are comfortable, but I think the damage has been done already my feet hurt no matter what.

Superfeet Green Comfort insoles saved my feet. $50 dlls, but it’s cheaper than a podiatrist or physical therapy.

Shoes for crews has a black non slip with a huge sole... I wore them for years! They’re expensive last a couple years

I know this is kinda weird but buy shoes for work that are 1/2 a size bigger. My toes used to go numb while on my shift bc my shoes fit but the extra room gives you room to wiggle your toesies especially when you’re trying to reach stuff in higher up cabinets

I've always heard it's good to switch out your shoes often to let your feet relax from being in the same position for a long time. I switched to orthopedic shoes as well but switch them out every few days and it seems to help. Foot bathes once a week saved my life, my stinky sore feet have never loved me more.

Can you ask for mats?
Red_Sweet_Tart [OP]3 points2y ago
Doubt it,I've been asking for the green gloves for washing dishes since a year ago. I bring my own gloves.

Honestly, I’ve been wearing a pair of wolverine boots to work for the past few years and it’s everything you could want: lots of ankle support, thick and cushioned, composite toes so when somebody inadvertently slams a fridge into your foot you don’t feel a thing, great shoe longevity. Little pricy, but they last atleast twice what my last pair of non-work boot shoe for like... 30 dollars more?

Wear an orthopedic shoes. Talk to your doctor about your feet and im pretty sure he will recommend an orthopedic shoes too. Don’t ignore your body when it tells you something doesn’t feel well. Take care!
