You're gonna need to order the exact same thing in the exact same way from me every day for at least a year before the muscle memory kicks in.
medicinexx75 points2y ago
and it’s always the people who come in with absolutely 0 personality insisting we should remember their order. girl you literally look like every other brunette middle age white woman in this town and you don’t even ask me how my day is, how do you expect me to remember you? lmao
Tall_Draw_5213 points2y ago
I definitely don't expect people to remember me, but I'm always torn on asking how your day is. While I am of course concerned for you, you may not think so. I don't want a barista saying "Like you give a shit" in their head back to me, you know?
\-brunette (though I pay for a nice shade of blonde) middle aged woman/former partner
medicinexx2 points2y ago
i don’t expect anyone to ask me how my day is! but i was just using that as a basis of the person not even making conversation with me, so they don’t really stand out at all.
Tall_Draw_5211 points2y ago
That's true. There was a guy who would hang around the bar and annoy me. I remember him but for the wrong reasons haha
SlippingStar1 points2y ago
When I worked in customer service, I hated being asked how my day was. It was so hollow and you couldn’t be honest.
MonstrousGiggling45 points2y ago
There's like a handful of customers orders who I have memorized. The two off the top of my head are from my favorite customer who is basically our store grandmother who orders the same 2 things every time, and this other lady who orders 1/4 Cold Brew and 3/4 Cold Foam which still shakes mee.
Like unless you're extra nice or just plain extra, I aint gonna remember shit.
buzzy900010 points2y ago
I'm in an airport Starbucks so the amount of actual regulars is relatively small and tend to develop a level of familiarity. Most of the ones I have memorised are very basic, the most complicated regular order is usually a 2 pump white mocha, who usually also goes for seasonal drinks, though the 2 others she comes in with have had the exact same order every time I've served them the past couple of years.

My favorite is the “I come here all the time though.” Honey, I liiiive here. I’ve never seen your ass before. Bye. ✋🏽

Only once can I recall a server at a restaurant remembering I had a “usual” but i had not ever thought of myself as having a “usual”. We used to go to the same restaurant almost every Friday and he remembered that after dinner I liked a patron shot and brought it to me without me asking for it. I was so embarrassed but also flattered. I don’t remember if I was charged for it since I didn’t ask for me but it didn’t matter. I wanted it and he got a big tip.

The McDonald's night crew across from my work started recognizing me. That was when I decided I was getting too much McDonald's after work.
nonuscinaedus17 points2y ago
Went to the same Starbucks a couple times a week for about 8 months, always ordered the same drink, and eventually many of the baristas knew my name and order. I dress in a fairly recognizable style but this was still a busy Starbucks in the middle of a city, so it was super touching. I'll never forget them, and I always tipped them a few dollars lol
julcarls16 points2y ago
If you're just gonna assume (rudely) I remember, I'll automatically pretend I don't and make you repeat the whole thing twice.
technicolourjpg12 points2y ago
the only regular drinks i can remember are the ones that absolutely scar me, so here are my top two!
- venti iced americano in trenta, decaf, 12 pumps sf cd, 12 pumps sf vanilla, 10 splendas (used to be 13! i see she’s keepin it more simple), and 1 inch almond milk. in the winter it’s the same but hot and steamed almond (not massively complicated but she is always very bratty about it and Always orders 2+ of these in drive thru)
- grande iced ristretto latte, lactose free, milk to the top, throw it in a blender with a tall scoop of ice and cinnamon, blend 4 times (up to 6 if shes in a bad mood...) on the dry cold foam setting, iirc it ends up filling 2 trentas and a grande because it expands so much, more cinnamon inside the cups and on top (the worst part is that she orders u around while ur doing it, refuses to pay for more than a grande iced latte + lactose mod, and to her defence she “used to work at starbucks” but not sure if anyone bothered fact checking that)

I still have an apron. I keep it for cases where I will need to prove my bux creds.

Asked a woman her name after she ordered in the cafe and said “you should know my name, I come here everyday!” For one, she looked like every other basic brunette boomer woman who came in and two I had literally never seen her before or after that day.
Tall_Draw_5211 points2y ago
Did you tell her there are a lot of things you \*should\* know? LOL That was my favorite response.
Immediate-Law-30000 points2y ago
Me: “no thanks” sksksksksk

How it feels picking up a shift at another store.
cxbar5 points2y ago
I only have one regular order i actually know, this customer has got the same thing for over 2 and a half years every day... other than that... yeah i don’t know your drink
bpsbpd3 points2y ago
Or when people say “I get a such and such from Beans and brews” okay....and? Why would I know what that is?
Tall_Draw_5212 points2y ago
Three regulars I'll never forget (Mayfield & Lee in Cleveland Heights),
1. The guy who have us a Christmas card that was handdrawn and really funny. He got an Americano with an extra shot. 2. The guy who wanted 8 pumps of vanilla in his caramel macchiato. Cute, but sort of a jerk. If you want to be remember, this is not the way. 3. The lady who orders one doppio espresso and always said "now you take care".
I don't know any of these people's names. But I do remember their faces and their drinks and they made me smile.
the_price_is_right962 points2y ago
My boss came over and was like "yeah. I'll get my regular, and the sausage wrap." Sir. I've never served you before in my life. I hope your regular is a venti black coffee, because that's what I'm giving you.
One time a customer was offended that I didn't remember her name or her order, and said "I expect you to remember that next time." I had never seen her before this, and I still have not seen her since then.
lewabwee2 points2y ago
I used to know people’s orders at my old store but ever since I transferred I haven’t learned a single order or customer’s name. Everyone just looks alike to me.
Politicalgeek032 points2y ago
This guy at my store comes in thru the drive thru and when I say “Hi welcome to starbucks how are you doing? He says good and I’ll have my usual” We call him the my usual guy. He’s maybe 20 if that. While on solo drive he called me bro 2 times in 1 minute. Bear in mind, we all think he is creepy and very social awkward. He isn’t even an every day regular nor is he that memorable.
Spiritual_Cheek_82542 points2y ago
Omg his videos are hilarious!! 🤣
cammypearls1 points2y ago
