Vaccines (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by butterflybre91
My store is in front of a hospital and today the hospital called to let us know 12 people had canceled appointments after they’d already dethawed the vaccines. They asked if we’d be interested in taking them. They showed up and vaccinated almost our entire morning staff (everyone working) and will be back next week to vaccinate the rest. We feel incredibly lucky!

Heck yeah! Unfortunately where I live in canada I have to wait till the end of June beginning of July to get my first dose but its better than not getting it at all
sneeze_trigger 21 points 2y ago
Ontario here, would a situation like this not warrant the same? Like they thawed the doses out already and they will otherwise be wasted, regardless of how old/at risk the nearest humans are

Also it's bullshit that people working in food service are not given higher priority... but I'll take that up with the government lol
noeyoureatowel 18 points 2y ago
Here in California, food service is part of 1B and we’ve had access for almost a month now! It’s surprising to see such a different response from Canada tbh.
uninstalldustin 9 points 2y ago
Honestly same. Like in my opinion we handled the virus a bit better than the usa did but yall got access to vaccines way before we did. Luckily my home town hasn't seen many cases so I'm not concerned about getting vaccinated right away but its still crazy to me

Canada kind of got screwed because the facility where their order was being manufactured started having production problems. (Cannot remember if it was Pfizer or Moderna.)
lechatsombre 1 points 2y ago
It’s a different response from state to state. Florida is busy vaccinating the elderly first and just added teachers and 40 and up. Instead of doing food service our lovely governor is going to open it to everyone starting next week. So great😩
Shorty_for_life 1 points 2y ago
Nevada here! My Starbucks just let us know (about two weeks ago) that we can get the vaccine. Not many are getting it though
hylia_bay 3 points 2y ago
If you attend a clinic at the end of the day, they have dethawed vaccines that they may be able to give to you or else they’ll spoil
SkylerSayys 2 points 2y ago
CVS told me I could come by and do that even though im not technically eligible yet because they’d rather not waste them and would just have to throw them away otherwise
technicolourjpg 3 points 2y ago
you can sign up to be on the waitlist for the astra zeneca vaccine on the rexall website! doenst *gurantee* a vaccine but u will be notified once they start moving into phase 2. when registering u can tick the box stating that you are a food service worker :)

edit: typo
mxs4235 2 points 2y ago
Isn’t this only for the GTA area though? Last I checked, there weren’t any in my area.
technicolourjpg 2 points 2y ago
oh damn i didn’t realize that, sorry about that. there still is a vaccine eligibility letter that you can find under your info on partner hub that you can bring with u for proof of employment when phase 2 starts to roll out. my coworker also said her paystub worked
OMGitsJewelz 1 points 2y ago
I just read yesterday that in Ontario they aren't letting people under 55 get the zeneca vaccine because of blood clot issues. You might want to double check...
Magseroni 2 points 2y ago
I live in the US and I was given higher priority than my parents who are both in their 50s and are both at high risk. That might just be my state though. We live near a state border and they have lots of anti-vaccine people in our neighboring state. So they got appointments down there. I still ask the federal government why we sent vaccines there when we knew they were all going complain about it even though it’s free. We’ve been eligible as food service for a while. The issue is lots of people want it and there are no appointment availabilities hardly.
technicolourjpg 1 points 2y ago
u should be able to qualify for phase 2 of the vaccine rollout! afaik that should be around mid april-mid may but i’m not sure if this is only the model in ontario. if you’re in ontario however i would sign up to be on the waitlist on the rexall site
yyz_barista 56 points 2y ago
If I was working, I'm pretty sure I'd have comped whatever food / drink the clinic staff wanted (whether that's allowed or not, I'd MTMR). That's super thoughtful they thought of y'all - props.

This is awesome! I think we have some sort of company benefit for getting it, 2 hours of pay for each shot. I’m trying to figure out where it’s written so I can site it for my SM when I ask for it because he doesn’t seem to know about it. I think it may have been in a weekly update
butterflybre91 [OP] 14 points 2y ago
It was in the weekly update! The clause, I believe is that you have to go while at work? Something like that.
dazedandconfusedhere 16 points 2y ago
You don’t have to go while at work or when scheduled that day! It’s just to encourage us to get vaccinated
givemeapples 3 points 2y ago
I've gotten my first shot before I was scheduled to work that day. Does this mean I can apply retroactively for the 2 hours of pay? If so. How do I approach my SM about it?
dazedandconfusedhere 1 points 2y ago
I think they started the pay on Feb 8th? So as long as you got it after that date you should
kqs13 1 points 2y ago
It depends on the date you were vaccinated, but at my store, we are writing it in the DRB on the page where you usually would record your punches if you forget to clock in or out. I would assume it is the same for other stores!
FfierceLaw 2 points 2y ago
Bummer, I feel I benefit the company even more by doing it on my own time. But SM did ask me to work the afternoon the day I got it. I wasn’t on schedule but he reached out when there was a call out so maybe I’m covered?
4filth 11 points 2y ago
What that user wrote isn’t true! It was in the weekly update a few weeks back (I wanna say last week of February?) anyway after you receive the vaccine you’re supposed to write it in the book at your store: two hours catastrophe pay.
FfierceLaw 2 points 2y ago
Thanks!
stratamaniac 22 points 2y ago
So lucky! Please go on to r/conspiracy and let them know you are still alive. According to them, everyone who takes the vaccine is dying or having a miscarriage. Dammit even the men are having miscarriages! We need proof of life!
Ltothe4thpower 12 points 2y ago
The men are having miscarriages? This vaccine is really doing something
stratamaniac 4 points 2y ago
Oh yeah, that was apparently on Killary's orders.
BoomSoonPanda 8 points 2y ago
That. Is. Awesome.
4filth 7 points 2y ago
This just warmed my cold dead heart. So nice to hear!
espresso_messo 1 points 2y ago
felt this sentiment😂😂
turkey_lurkee 3 points 2y ago
Omg, I bet you're glad you went to work!!

I am super excited for you!

I registered online and live in an extremely red area. I guess they didn't have enough takers so they called yesterday and...

IM GETTING MY FIRST MODERNA DOSE TOMORROW!!!

thanks dolly
Assiqtaq 3 points 2y ago
I just got my second dose on Friday. I work in a grocery store kiosk, and the managers went around and asked everyone working if they wanted to get the vaccine 2 weeks ago. So glad to have it done, though the exhaustion is not a joke.
NothingToSeeFolks 3 points 2y ago
That’s awesome!!
aGrapeInUtero 2 points 2y ago
Tf wow this is awesome
KittenCatAttack 2 points 2y ago
Yay! That's great news!
prhamm 1 points 2y ago
That is so awesome! We love people helping people!
hopelovepeace33 1 points 2y ago
Wow that’s amazing! Mayo Clinic which is the hospital my store is near would never do that even though we serve literally all of their employees just about.
Dzfranken 1 points 2y ago
Dethawed!😅😆🤣🤣
TylerJ716 1 points 2y ago
That is such a blessing wow I'm so happy for y'all
LordGayness420 1 points 2y ago
I’ll be the only one (18M) out of my team along with my older coworker (50+F) to get the COVID vaccine due to both of us having life threatening lung illnesses. Cant believe we still both have to work through Covid or we’d be homeless 😥
Magseroni 1 points 2y ago
That’s amazing! I got a vaccine appointment for April 10 and May 1. The hospital I’m getting it at makes the appointments together because there’s no use giving someone one vaccine without the guarantee of a second. I just have to get up early and drive to the city and back before my closing shifts those days.
actualpintobean -8 points 2y ago
We still work if we have side effects from the vaccine
Hamchook -5 points 2y ago
Hopefully you guys all don’t get side effects on the same day you’re scheduled to work
4filth 7 points 2y ago
? Even if they do, it’s far better than getting COVID?
Hamchook 0 points 2y ago
I’m not against the vaccine. I’m just saying that some people (like myself) reacted to getting the vaccine. I put me down for a good two days. Now if everyone reacts like how i did, it’s gonna be a problem for everyone on shift.
