I don’t think *all* stores are like that, and it could be worth transferring if you want to stay working for Starbucks. I know my SM is not like that at all, and I would hope others are like mine too. Maybe look into the store you might transfer to, visit it and ask the baristas there before you do it?

is it normal for an SM to never close or even really work past the afternoon? My store has SSVs who were hired with the intent of working mornings and having to work nights interferes with their personal and home lives, but my SM prioritizes themself. The few occasions they were scheduled to close or an SSV called off they would have to cover, my SM shut the whole store down or called out sick. I don’t know how they get away with it and my DM doesn’t see it, or just doesn’t care.

Yikes. No that’s not normal. My SM primarily works mornings, but also works mids pretty often and will close. If we can’t find coverage, they work the shift, even if they were already there that day. They’ve closed for me when I had a day requested off, or had to call off. The only reason they don’t close more is because I am a the full time closer and we have another shift whose availability is to close on the 2 days I’m off.
