Anyone else’s store have code words/phrases for telling you “you’re doing terrible” indirectly? (self.starbucksbaristas)

My shifts/coworkers will look at me or another barista who is very clearly struggling and not doing good AT ALL and go “mhm yeah doing fantastic guys” and then go shit talk with the other ssv about how so and so can’t keep up on bar

Same I have a shift leader that only picks on me telling me things and I’m like when I’m home I start thinking am I fit for this job or what

Today during peak our SSV was front/food runner and once 9:00 am hit(end of peak) she just stopped doing that position and just stared at the daily coverage report (dcr) for i swear 40 minutes while we ran out of ice, milk, cups, lids, etc. I wanted to die. Must be nice to be able to watch everyone suffer while they get paid extra$ to do half the labor.

I used to have an SSV that would do that! He would literally be over by the DCR every five minutes reading it, but somehow “didn’t know” someone was off at whatever time. He’s gone now, which is bittersweet bc we are fucked, but he was such a negative nelly we couldn’t take it anymore

Also, on the topic of code words/sayings, when something bad happens, we’re out of stuff, or just when someone’s backed up on bar we will say “I love that for you” or “I love that for us”. It’s actually really annoying.

We do this a lot at our store too!!! Sometimes it can be a lighthearted joke no one really thinks about (we also use the phrase when talking about non-work things), but when I say “We’re 20 minutes behind on cafe/mobile” don’t say “haha love that for you 🤪” and keep standing in front register with no line. If you can jump in and help, even if it’s getting a cup of water or making a quick refresher, grabbing supplies, anything that will be beneficial for bar (or even food) people—do it!!!

Lol that hit home for me. What I hate about that though is I have to constantly call out what I need stocked or help with instead of the SSV noticing the visual cues and stepping in on their own.
