Whoever decided to post that TikTok saying Starbucks sells boba now, I'll find you. We've had so many people asking for Boba today (and it'll probably continue for a while). I'm tired. We don't sell boba. We probably never will. Please.

Somebody called our store yesterday and asked about it, now I know why.

Someone last year caught attitude with me when I told them we didn’t have it. They literally were like “ThEn WhY dOeS iT sAy YoU dO oN yOuR wEbSiTe?!?!” And I deadpanned into the headset “because other countries have it and we don’t.”

Just like before oat milk was being used in the US, but they had it in the UK. We had so many customers asking for oat milk after an article ran about oat milk at starbucks. In the very last sentence of the article it mentioned that it was only in the UK. You expect people to read more than the title to find out that you'd need to travel literally thousands of miles to get this? Really?
Markedsoultheif13 points2y ago
I think my first mistake was expecting customers to read at all. Half the time they don’t even read the menu, they just order and then get pissy when we’re out of things
astivana7 points2y ago
I don’t think other countries’ Starbucks have it, even. I googled it and the most I found was an April Fools joke from 2018.

Why am I not surprised. I wanna know how these people think we’d make boba. Even the stuff you can buy from Amazon is a time consuming process that has an incredibly short shelf life
jazzy22jm7 points2y ago
Why search my store and call and ask about boba when withing the SAME amount of time had searched a boba shop. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!.
LegendOfJakelope27 points2y ago
God, right? And people keep asking about "that new peach refresher!" Wtf! I hate TikTok
HengroenAndLlamrei10 points2y ago
I wonder why Starbucks doesn’t though? It seems like an obvious and pretty popular inclusion to add to the menu. Starbucks already makes a ton of custom milk teas. Just slap them on the official menu and add boba.

Because the assumption is that if we have the traditional, we'd have all the flavors that come with it, along with a slew of recipes and a whole bunch of other stuff that would overload baristas.
They just recently "added" shaken espressos, so to add another like of drink recipes would clog up logistics even more.

I hear what you’re saying, but given the tiktok phenomena and all the customization already going on, I’m not sure corporate will consider adding more syrup flavors and boba inclusions too much of an inconvenience to the logistic chain (even if it actually is). I have a little bet with myself that Starbucks will introduce boba and milk tea menus items by 2025.
genji205617 points2y ago
Oh, corpo won't care. And I'm sure they will be added eventually. But I'm saying all of this as a barista who doesn't want to be slammed with a bunch of strawberry milk teas (basically pink drinks)

Another issue with boba is that it would be a completely new thing to prepare ourselves like mocha and frap roast, and need its own special container. Boba is boiled and then prepared in honey/brown sugar. It can be frozen, but it still needs time to be prepared and properly taken care of and for sure would be guaranteed to be something we'd run out of, especially based on how covid and other factors have affected delivery.
AceyFluff12 points2y ago
I mean I kind of get where you’re coming from and it would be nice to have Boba tea‘s, but I’m a bit newer and I already struggle with making any of our close to 50 different drinks. Not to mention the addition of anything customizable, I just think adding Boba tea would be one step too far.😅
HengroenAndLlamrei2 points2y ago
I get that. While in theory long term employees would have a handle on an extensive menu, Starbucks has too high a turn over rate to rely on that. I guess it must be cheaper to retrain new people than adequately compensate veterans. Doesn’t make sense to me, but I’m not a corporate goon and believe happy employees are a critical aspect of success so what do it know? Maybe they will evolve into having specialized bars and baristas. Like the coffee baristas and the tea baristas. Or, more likely, they’ll just say ‘make it work!’ Lol.

Where do yall see these tiktok drinks? Maybe im just on a different side of tiktok but ever when I search #Starbucks I only find a few

VrginMobile2 points2y ago
I'm guessing this isn't recent or maybe it popped up again since 2 months ago someone came in asking for boba.
derfla881 points2y ago
