LS barista here!

My opener called in this morning so its just me until noon

On a saturday

In the busiest grocery store in my area

While we have a 2 for $5 deal going

The day before Easter.

So yeah pull a shot for me lovelies lmao

Edit:
Aw thanks you guys! Y'all are so supportive ❤ free pastries for everyone! (I don't think I've ever had to pull this many holy crap)

Thankfully(regrettably?) It's not the first time I've had to do something similar so I know how to pace things out while working through the line yet still get stuff done. Had somebody cross trained in bakery today so I pulled her in to cover lunch/pull/restocking and it ended up going pretty darn smooth!

So sorry for those of you who replied going through something similar 😭 I'll help dig some extra graves. I have plenty of cake pops to share

Frequently alone long time Tarbux barista advice; fuck getting customers out in a timely fashion, they’ll understand. Or they won’t, not your problem. Take it all one step at a time, at your own pace. Breathe, you got this. I don’t know you, but I’m proud of you. Sincerely, a barista who 4 years ago, the night before Easter, was a green bean closing alone because the other closer called out for her final two weeks.

Yeah this is what I tell all my beans, "they got in the line so they signed up for the wait. One transaction at a time, one drink at a time".

I'll have your grave dug, prepped and lined with cakepops. ⚰️
Hoax_Pudding_Cup 27 points 2y ago
Put a little bit of crunch topping and BAM, we got a full funeral.

Omg saaame. I'll be alone till 11 inside a target... the day before Easter... Good luck my fellow, overworked barista ✊✊

Hi! I opened my Tarbucks (came in at 6) and was alone until 2:30, when I left and another girl came in to be by herself for the next hour. Today AND yesterday! Because the other girl who usually comes in shortly after open had to quarantine. I’m about tired of the entire consumables department spreading gossip about how “Starbucks had ANOTHER call-in” bitch? she didn’t ask for this. Target intentionally doesn’t keep enough of us on staff. We do THE HARDEST work of anyone in the store and get the same $15. I was RUNNING, sweating, doing a full fucking Zumba routine of manual labor, all while being stared daggers by gUeStS that didn’t care that I was alone. When I left the upper management was shooting the piss at the tsc desk. I decided that they would know I was mad by the way I left. So I smashed into the door to open it, and when my store coordinator said “bye!” my “bye” in reply was laden with disdain. Anyway. Rant over. I’m glad we both survived the weekend. I’m out of here to move across the country for a grad program in a couple months and I can’t fucking wait 😬

Oh yeah, I wouldn’t claim that we did harder work than everyone else in the store if I hadn’t worked in other departments. I worked (mostly) in fulfillment while sbux was shut down for covid near the beginning. That shit was awesome. No one was on the hook for when I took my breaks. I could go to the break room and get a drink whenever I wanted. I got to shop for people and get paid. Fulfillment is all my store director cares about, it’s his baby. He makes trophies for the fulfillment team when they set personal bests on packing and shit. Constantly thanking the fulfillment team over the walkie and telling them how wonderful they are. PLEASE fuck off, grande black cold brew man.

UPDATE: So, that was absolute madness. There is currently a line wrapping around the building just to get into the store.. don't think I've ever made so many Frappuccinos in one shift. I'm so sticky. Hope you are ok OP 🙃

Oh geez I'm so sorry x.x you did it though!! Way to power through. I'm safe at home now and gonna go take a well deserved nap lol. Get some rest! You deserve it
ZealousEmu6462 1 points 2y ago
Yeesss... we did it!
You too! And I hope you get tomorrow off for that extra needed rest, after this crazy day 😁❤

Another fellow ls barista here. It really is just about making the drinks one customer at a time. Some will even comment something like “they got you alone today? Well, you’re doing an amazing job holding your own.” I feel that the majority of people that wait in line in my store are very patient. Sure, they could be displeased with there only being one person, but thats not in your control. No matter how fast you go, the line will still be there, so have a good pace and don’t overwork yourself!

Might as well die on the clock.

Friday Love???? I feel for you babe, ugh I am so sorry. And of course this week its everyday until Monday
TheDoctor88888888 12 points 2y ago
Just work slow and at your own pace. You’re one person, no need to over exert yourself for minimum wage.
oldmansbelt 7 points 2y ago
This is how Ragnarok begins, I saulte you brave warrior.
PalominoCreste 5 points 2y ago
Hold strong and don’t let anyone rush you. Work at your own pace my friend. I’ve been there.
AnthraxGirl 4 points 2y ago
I did this to my sweet, poor barista today. I’m an LS manager and spent all night and all morning throwing up, couldn’t even drive so I called out. No biggie, we’ve got three other people working, should be fine, right?

Nope. I guess two of the others also called out, leaving our poor morning lady all alone on a busy af day.

I feel terrible
noob_trees 1 points 2y ago
I used to work in a LS .. I don't anymore. I wish you guys could close all day, or partial days, if you don't have the staff.. don't you get fined if you do? Doesn't seem fair, especially given the events of the past year and some change :(
AnthraxGirl 2 points 2y ago
We’ve had days, like today, where we do close at 3-4 pm. There’s always the chance we will get put on non-compliance for it but some days there’s really no choice
grizzlynicoleadams 3 points 2y ago
If I see a long line and one lonely barista pumping out drinks, I will know that it’s my decision to wait and I am a willing participant. Anything else makes me an asshole. Go your own pace. You got this.

That happened to me and my crew about three weeks ago my manager had something medical happen to her and we had a new green bean the second week that it happened every one was so understanding besides one person and she is an employee all because I miss heard her threatened to tell my supervisor on me
bettiegee 1 points 2y ago
Wait. They let just one person work now? There always were supposed to be at least two people working last I worked there. I was always under the impression it was a safety thing.
lattelife42 [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Depends on the store. We usually run anywhere from 1-4 baristas, we usually only run with 1 first thing in the morning to open and then someone comes in when morning peak starts. And then the closer is usually by themselves at the end too. This time of year we're only allotted about 24 scheduling hours in a day however so we're running skeleton crew to begin with. Can't wait for summer hours x.x

Good god this is insane. The more I read here, the more I am glad I left when I did. Eek.
