when you always get asked to do drains bc you clean them so thoroughly (reddit.com)

Dude what’s your secret? Our drains are stained as heck
dumbflatwhite [OP] 102 points 2y ago
pure spite & working at a 2 month old store

no but for real my store does them every day (on top of being new) so they dont generally get **that** nasty. i just use that little two sided sponge (not a brush), run water through/over the drain before i start scrubbing, putting soap both *on* the sponge and around the drain, and filling a trenta cup with water to use for rinsing the sides of the drain. i also go over them with a dry rag once i’m done to mop up the cleaner residue left on the floor.

When our store got redone 18 months ago, they didn't replace the drains or the grates for whatever reason, so ours are disgusting and rusty even though we clean them every day :(
bryceofswadia 11 points 2y ago
My store used to do them every day but they changed it to a Clean Play task like a month after I got hired.
cedle 2 points 2y ago
Wow I didn't know anyone cared that much about them, I just take the grates and rinse them off in the mop sink and squirt it with bleach. That seems to work well enough.

Drain stains are also gonna vary from city to city depending on water hardness.
mouldyeggpatty 23 points 2y ago
Thank you for mentioning this!!! My city’s water may as well be 37% lead and no local stores have drains that aren’t an awful rusted brown/grey.
Anxious_Database 39 points 2y ago
Lmao I didn’t even know the drains were supposed to be white
ohyonkavich 23 points 2y ago
Super hot tea water helps
sdkid92 6 points 2y ago
Wouldn’t tea water just stain them even more?
ohyonkavich 29 points 2y ago
Not actual brewed tea, just the water from the tap used for tea because its hotter than the regular taps.
obfsctr 6 points 2y ago
lol
moon_light523 5 points 2y ago
They meant the place we normally get hot water for the teas....why would they mean actual tea
sdkid92 8 points 2y ago
Ohh I know. “Tea water” just sounded funny to me.
El_Gabe69-420 4 points 2y ago
Normal english grammar would answer your question.

Tea water.

Water is the noun. Tea is the adjective in this case. Tea is made of water. Also, it's unusual, so that's why they asked, to clarify their confusion.

Why would anyone consider how different people process things before they drop a comment?
moon_light523 1 points 2y ago
Not to point out the obvious but this is a subreddit for Starbucks baristas, therefore I’d assume the people here are, you guessed it, Starbucks baristas. With that being said most of us know what “tea water” means.

Every time I see posts about drains I’m so thankful for the girl at our store that does them every time
Vauxiliatrix 12 points 2y ago
dude same i straight up just use the liquid disinfectant bc it gets stains right out
LovePugs924 11 points 2y ago
It’s pretty sad but i used to want to do drains if that meant it gave me a break off bar or pretty much any task that got me off of bar lol
washiwashimurder 1 points 2y ago

Anangel017 4 points 2y ago
The way the Restroom cleaner is labeled is so true and definitely not a joke lmao 😭✋🏼 I had to do BOH cleanplay and I got so light headed I had to go to the bathroom and take my mask off to be able to take deep breaths 🤡
Gemma_V 3 points 2y ago
Liquid disinfectant cleans the heck out of them but bleaches my clothes so bad!!!
stagstar 3 points 2y ago
God damn those are nice
SadnL0w 3 points 2y ago
me too!!!!
zzid2d21 2 points 2y ago
I used to use the mop bucket. Fill it half way with the hottest water I could stand and spray them all with the restroom cleaner (The 2 removable grates) give them a scrub with the brush and then let them soak while I was doing the floor part. I still have nightmares about the drain under the cold bar sink. That one was always, always nasty!!
joviante 2 points 2y ago
wait......

we’re supposed to do more than just spray them?? i was taught that you spray the yellow bottle stuff on the drains and then like ten minutes later rinse them off???
feisty314 3 points 2y ago
There's is a cleaner simply called Liquid Disinfectant, I think, which is a white, paste-ish liquid - mostly bleach, but thick enough to stick to things. Use that (sparingly - a little goes a long way and will definitely bleach your clothes - and definitely with gloves) along with a rag, a scrubie, or my store has a dedicated urn brush that isn't used for urns. The drain pieces can be washed in your mop sink, but not your dish sink because this cleaner is NOT food contact safe! Scrub, rinse, optionally rinse with sanitizer water. The yellow spray is for things like counters and door handles.
Razza_ma_tazza 2 points 2y ago
You act like I haven’t just poured straight bleach into them. It was a bad day for me.
EeePeeTee 2 points 2y ago
You could eat out of those drains.
Throwawaysnore 2 points 2y ago
