Am I the only one who gets super annoyed when someone orders a caramel macchiato upside down? Sooooooo many times I just want to say “ so a vanilla latte with caramel drizzle”
lol o the little things 😂😂😂😂
gabbysafari43 points2y ago
i mean... ordering an upside down macchiato IS cheaper than ordering a latte with vanilla and caramel drizzle. and the macchiato comes with 1 less pump of syrup, which is a super small difference but a difference nonetheless.
sweet-seat4 points2y ago
i was told by my manager (because i don't actually have time to read the updates) that it was in an update that caramel macchiatos get the standard pumps of syrup. i don't know how true that is, but i've been doing it.
gabbysafari9 points2y ago
i remember blonde espresso drinks getting the normal amount of pumps but i don’t remember if the macchiatos were included in that or not. it seems like they still have one less pump on the app? i mean one pump really doesn’t make much of a difference either way 🤷🏼♀️
drewdrop268 points2y ago
IIRC that's only for blonde espresso drinks, but caramel macchiatos still get the -1 pump.

It’s cheaper to order a caramel macchiato upside down than a vanilla latte with caramel drizzle. Sometimes if I’m craving something sweeter I’ll order one and I’ll get it upside down so it’s already mixed together. Why does it annoy you when people order it like this when it’s less work for us to make?
Mean-Caterpillar78008 points2y ago
The layering of the macchiato is sacred. Upside down or mixing it is sacrilege. Lol
Honestly I don’t hate when they order it upside down just when they stir it. It really eeks me for some reason..
morganh05132 points2y ago
it’s literally easier to ring up an upside caramel macchiato than it is an iced vanilla latte with caramel drizzle. quicker, cheaper, easier lol. what’s the deal. i’d much rather someone order it that way when i’m ringing. some of the posts on here are beyond nit picky😭

I encourage customers to order it this way so it’s less work. It super annoys me when they ask for a straw and stir it. Anytime I see that I tell them to order upside down. Our store is all about that! They just don’t know any better and we try to teach them the secrets.
Update: talked to someone today who asked for a straw and I thought said she like to stir it. As I explained about ordering upside-down, she said she actually likes getting all the coffee first from the top...but still uses a straw. I know before the sip lids we all drank them with straws, but do you really get the “coffee first” taste through a straw?
fruity_boba21 points2y ago
I love it when they order an ICED caramel macchiato NO ICE then use a straw to drink it and say "ItS tOO SWeEt" !!!
CobaltLemon14 points2y ago
I tell them to just order it upside when I watch them shaking it in their car.
It’s easier on me to make upside down in bar anyway. 🤷🏼♀️ I don’t have to worry about catching the shots or getting back to them before they die cause they just got caught in the syrup like a normal latte.
steadyslingin13 points2y ago
No, you are not the only one. Equally if not more annoying is when they order it stirred or with no foam. What's the point?
Conscious_Ad_8241 [OP]4 points2y ago
Ha! Yes omg the no foam!!! Since we are talking about down, people who order venti extra dry cappuccinos are terrible.
longhair-care2much20 points2y ago
Unpopular opinion: I love making those. 😂
Elven_maiden9 points2y ago
Yeah, extra dry cappuccinos are my favorite lol
-zombie-squirrel1 points2y ago
Absolutely my fave drinks to make!
jams10151 points2y ago
Ditto. It's so satisfying.
moon_light5231 points2y ago
We have a regular who comes in a gets a grande cappuccino extra dry with 3 Splendas, and when he comes through we put someone who’s good at making it on bar to make his 😂
jupiter_bug7 points2y ago
If you add ice after the espresso and slowly pour milk down the side of the cup, you can layer it so that it is an upside down caramel macchiato. But it can be annoying when there is a rush going on.
givemeapples3 points2y ago
This almost sounds like an elaborate prank that I am now going to try out haha
ContentAd4906 points2y ago
Either way I order it people are annoyed. I used to work there and people acted like it was just as obnoxious to order it as a latte with caramel because it’s the same ingredients as a macchiato so I just order it and stir
lightofyourlifehere3 points2y ago
... its not the same and if you think it is then you have been doing it wrong.
For starters, a latte with vanilla would get one more pump of vanilla than a carmel macciato
Secondly, people usually get this cause they want the carmel at the bottom too and stirred in
If you type it in its two mods for a latte with vanilla and carmel drizzle and only one mod for an upside down carmel macciato, so they are actually ordering in the most efficient way
It will also charge them more for a latte with vanilla nd carmel drizzle than a carmel macciato

Aye. This is the truth. Upside down only refers to the orientation of the shots and milk. Too many times ive ordered an upside down macchiato and have been extremely disappointed when the barista put the caramel on the bottom of the cup...
Calsan11 points2y ago
Unless it's been changed recently, a caramel macchiato costs slightly less than a vanilla latte, add caramel drizzle.
That said, it still annoys me when it's ordered that way.
InterestedButBored1 points2y ago
When they order it upside down I do cali style with no drizzle on top. It's actually pretty good and is exactly what they ordered.

InterestedButBored1 points2y ago
Okay I put it not cali style, just with drizzle at the bottom and make the caramel macchiato as if it were upside down. Once someone changes a recipe it becomes open to Barista interpretation so it won't be consistent across stores
jellibees3 points2y ago
Same! I always put the drizzle in the bottom so it melts

More annoying is working at pretty much any other coffee shop and the custies who just assume anything "macchiato" is a Starbucks caramel macchiato. I started telling people I didn't know what was in a Starbucks caramel macchiato, but if they told me, I could make it. That was a lie. I worked at Starbucks forfuckingever. But fucking with custies is fun! Even better would be the person who would go ahead and order an espresso macchiato, because that was the only kind we had, even after I explained what it was and that it was not a Starbucks caramel macchaito.
( I worked at Starbucks '93-2010. Different coffee shop from 2018-2020)
