New barista here! Is it possible to learn at home?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lilyellowfaith
I’m wondering if anyone knows of a way to teach yourself drink builds at home? Like are there any learning resources out there for essentially just being a barista? I did four days of training and have had three shifts out of training so far and haven’t made drinks since day two of training. I feel like I’ve already forgotten most of it. I got hired to work at a store that’s currently being built and will be leaving to start working at that store the end of April. The manager of the new store texted me saying we were gonna do my barista certification in a little over a week from now and I’m nervous because it’s a list of 18 drinks that I need to make plus knowing the routines of milk steaming, beverage sequencing, cup marking, and beverage blending Any sort of reference sheets out there for all this stuff?

quizlet has a bunch!!!! on r/starbucks search “green bean” and/or “cheat sheet” and/or “recipes” for some helpful charts and stuff. i’m working on putting together a master post for green beans with FAQs, links to resources and other stuff because i know how frustrating it can be to piece everything together.

I'm making cheat sheet cards that are laminated that you can keep in your apron pocket!! If you're interested, DM me I will be sending out info when they're done

Time worked is time paid. If it is work related, get paid for it. I’m a store manager and i can tell you it’s easy to fall in love with the job but the relationship has to be 2 sided. You give your time. They pay you for your hard work.

I used the app. It has all the ingredients on every drink available. Super useful for me at least.

Yes! Here is how I taught myself:
-- do what the other user said to do. Find cheat sheets, get the lay of the land so to speak
-- Google "(drink recipe you wanna know details of) + starbucks + reddit"
Examples:
"Salted Caramel Mocha recipe starbucks reddit"
"Caramel apple spice barista recipe starbucks reddit"
Adding the 'barista' helps sometimes
The comments will often tell you how to specifically make the drink, as well as helpful tips.
Then come in early and verify with the iPad that you have all the correct info (things change about every week so this job is definitely a great way to keep your brain exercised!)
Best of luck to you, I know you can do it :)
