What are some things fellow baristas do that just piss you off?(self.starbucksbaristas)

I swear I could write a novel on these idiots (in a lovingly way) I work with

When someone is clearly upset about something, and when you politely but assertively ask them about it, they just try to play it off like it's cool and there's no problem at all...only to get pissy about it later. In that case, it seems like you're less interested in not having the problem be resolved and more interested in just having something to whine about.

If you mess up, tell me, I got u and when I mess up, you got me. We’re a team. Let’s look out, learn and grow from each other. For the most part, I’ve worked w amazing people. But.... you forget to put vanilla in a London fog and its ok. You just apologize for the inconvenience to the guest, get a couple pumps in there and send them on their way, lmk and i keep it in mind. You don’t have to pull me aside, tell me I’m wrong in front of the guest, roll your eyes and go out your way to make me never be on bar again... y’all needa chilllllllll

i has a shift do this!!! we were SLAMMED, had a line out the door (so bad stores next to us were calling like “WTF”-weren’t mad just very confused). i was front+food, but with 45+ people cramming themselves into our lobby (even just 7 people takes up all room, my store is SMALL) and my ssv who is now long gone snatched my arm and yelled at me about flexing when i had well over 100 food items to make and needed the support, but she got to sit back and watch us burn so who cares?
Erbearlee15 points2y ago
When we are busy and we decide to use this time to make different flavored whip creams instead of making drinks. This was led by my SM and shift and followed by the 2 bar people while I’m on DTO/DTR. As our DT line was wrapped around the building.
Edit: I’m still salty about this
temporarynothings [OP]3 points2y ago
to be fair, i would be salty too. fun idea for slow days but not during peak

when people live their area looking like shit and spill their damn milk for me to clean up while they’re on their phones.
Automatic_Owl_724311 points2y ago
when someone on bar finishes their shift/goes on a break and doesn’t clean the bar down for the next person
badatlife1511 points2y ago
Me being on DTO and the barista on window is playing on their phone when items are ready to be handed out during peak with the line to the street.
Edited to add-the key issue is this being a common occurrence with this one particular barista and not during slow times, which at that point doesn’t phase me.
temporarynothings [OP]6 points2y ago
we have a handful of baristas who will not get off their phones. i’m not an ssv or anyone special but i will tell them to put it away, and they call me controlling. like i’m not controlling i just don’t want you to lose your job???
Erbearlee3 points2y ago
Because this is such a problem at my store, my SM implemented a no phones on the floor policy. My store calls me the phone police, because if I see it, I’m going to nag you until it’s in the back. If it’s in your pocket, I don’t care, if I can see it on the counter/in your hand, you’re a part of the problem and I will bitch at you.
temporarynothings [OP]2 points2y ago
we have at least 6 signs upfront that say no phones, but everyone (mainly night shift) ignores them. like, if your phone is going to be that big of an issue find somewhere else to put it if having it in your pocket is too tempting
badatlife152 points2y ago
Yeah I couldn’t risk losing my job for my phone. I’ll take it out on occasion to check the time and from time to time that turns into a quick checking of my email or notifications, but only when we are in a lull and there’s no customers.
sydbey_8 points2y ago
seeing baristas on window on their phone period. You’re at work, why are you on your phone? Stock your station. Wipe something down. Take / input an order for DTO since they’re getting all your warming or helping out with mobile orders. Go finish that Frappuccino the window is waiting on instead of staring at it.😕
Also? STOP recommending vsccf on EVERY drink being handed out the window. STOP pulling bar stickers and placing them in random spots just to get to your drink sticker for your break - just tell me you don’t need it. If you’re going to help out on bar, that’s fine, but make sure your station is all good to go - meaning you’ve got coffee brewed, no orders to take and you’re caught up for the most part since we aren’t even busy enough to need to 2 people on bar atm - please take advantage of this lull and restock!!! STOP pulling cafe warming stickers and putting them off to the side like drive thru customers are more important - they print out in an order for a reason 😫
temporarynothings [OP]8 points2y ago
the pulling stickers thing!! i was in cafe/mobIle today and it picked up some around 3 and the DTO person comes over and pulls 18 STICKERS. i literally almost cried and felt very tempted to pour the americano i was making on her head. if you aren’t planning to make the drinks, don’t pull the fucking stickers. pisses me right off
sydbey_4 points2y ago
it’s maddening!! like, are you thinking at all? This isn’t helping! You’re just messing up the bars flow and maybe in the process losing stickers and creating bottlenecks because we didn’t even know you pulled the sticker and left the cup / sticker in a random spot!
julcarls7 points2y ago
No sense of urgency. Like I get it, there's no real incentive to being faster, but F*CK move fasting than a sloth?!?! I have well trained baristas that do this during peak for no reason other than they're just vibing.
temporarynothings [OP]7 points2y ago
i’m hauling ass every minute at work unless there’s a day (like today) where we only have 1-3 mobile/cafe orders every 10 minutes. even then i’m in “go mode” if i’m helping the other bar, stocking, cleaning, whatever incase of an unexpected rush. i can’t stand people who just stand around and don’t do shit, especially during peak
mochiMaisey5 points2y ago
plz close the lids to inclusion containers. stop leaving the ice scoops resting upward when they should be downwards. and please for the love of god. just close the fucking ice bin lid.
temporarynothings [OP]2 points2y ago
i’m literally the only person at my store that has a habit of closing lids. even my SM will leave the inclusions/ice lid open
ventisizedstress5 points2y ago
When the people on bar chit chat with each other instead of finishing drinks when I’m on DTO/window and our line is out in traffic.
ryperry13 points2y ago
omfg when partners on DTO/Window just sit there and wait during those lucky few minutes when there are no more cars instead of actively looking for things to stock, clean, etc..... like read the room babe i just double barred during a rush i shouldn’t have to stock all the lids too
P_2_P3 points2y ago
When my fellow partners don’t clean up after themselves on bar. You make a Frappuccino, rinse the blender, you grab milk out of cold bar, put it back, etc etc. literally anything you use put it back where you found it
temporarynothings [OP]3 points2y ago
we have a partner who just refuses to clean up on bar. she’ll pull out 3-4 gallons of milk and instead of putting them back in the fridge she’ll push them into the other bar’s space. same with empty whips/empty caramels. the other day we were on bar together and it pissed me off enough that every milk that got shoved into my space went right into my fridge. after she caught on why her fridge was completely empty she stopped
P_2_P2 points2y ago
It’s like, I can handle the counters being a disaster but if there’s mess on top of that it makes my job harder and throws me out of routine. Me and my other coworkers can non verbally work around each other. It’s pretty cool
Adorable_Track_8273 points2y ago
start drinks while their ordering but then never take the sticker once it gets pushed through. they’ll end up finishing and handing out the drink and i’ll go to make another and end up duplicating the drink.

One barista shift always ends around the end of school day rush (we’re between two high schools). She ALWAYS orders like 6-7 free drinks for her family, each one with massive amounts of modifications. She will not make a single one. She will watch you and scream at you if you mess up. She also somehow always enters in at least one drink wrong, and forces us to remake it. I hate her.
temporarynothings [OP]5 points2y ago
ohhh absolutely not. i order myself a drink as well as my brother most days, and i feel extremely guilty. mine are simple cold brews but my brother gets caramel traps with extra caramel drizz and double blended-i almost always make it just be i feel so bad for ordering a frap 😂
but also- if her drinks get made wrong then why doesn’t that make her want to make them so they’re right???
mthrowaway3113 points2y ago
does your SM know about that? 6-7 free drinks is company theft. we’re entitled to one drink after our shift ends

when people throw trash in the recycling bin....... >:(

Messy AF baristas. Like - really! Just letting lemonade pour out on the floor, puddles of milk siting there, getting matcha and vb powder everywhere and not wiping it up. Or putting the sticker on the cup and leaving it there without telling anyone bec you don’t want to do it. Ughhh
blissbyjules2 points2y ago
We have a barista at my store with absolutely no sense of urgency. Like, when tasked with something, do it well and do it QUICKLY! It doesn’t take 10 minutes to prepare lemonades. The standing around with hands in your pockets when legitimately at any time there is something to be stocked, prepped or deep-cleaned pisses me off 😇

There is an SSV that is really passive aggressive towards me. I joined in September and until February I was always DTO/DTR even though I am fully bar trained. So, I asked the whatever SSV was lead at the time if I could ever try something different. Well, essentially this passive aggressive SSV didn’t like that I kept on asking so she has taken it upon herself to try to stop me from talking up, presumably because it made it easier to run as she knew who would be on DT. Now she just constantly talks about me (literally behind my back knowing full well I can hear her) and is just trying to make everything that much difficult when I’m on bar- moving jugs, won’t fill anything up during rush etc. And a lot of people are starting to notice this and find it very weird
