Hi beautiful baristas!! I’m a customer and I have a question! I go to Starbucks daily and I’m obsessed with the brown sugar oat milk shaken espresso but honestly is it dumb to ask for less ice? Like I’m not an idiot, I know it’s shaken with ice..... but is it normal for ice to pretty much be touching the lid? I feel like I get 5 sips and my $6+++ drink is gone. I think I’m going to start ordering iced oat milk lattes with different syrups instead lol.

Gotta be honest, I would just go for the oat milk lattes with different syrups, you'll get more drink and wont be looked at weird for asking for light ice. I dont know what you mean by "ice touching the lid", but I know I roll my eyes a little bit everytime someone asks for shaken espresso's with light ice. In an update we got a couple weeks ago, if you ask for light ice, we have to specify if you want more milk or room in the cup and it just makes it kinda annoying. Just my two cents, but also good luck getting oat milk.

My target Starbucks is pretty stocked with oat milk, thank God. And I mean ice touching the lid as in the entire cup is full of ice that is touching the lid! It goes that high up LOL

yeah, the thing about these shaken espresso drinks is that the primary ingredient is ice, and we need a specific espresso-to-ice ratio to get that nice espresso foam and create a drink that fills most of the cup. so if you ask for less ice you'll end up with less foam and less drink overall, sadly. your barista definitely might be overfilling the shaker with ice, it's easy to do, but either way the drink is mostly made of ice anyway so it just might not be the right one for you

No I fully understand that it’s needed! Thanks for giving me more info though. This drink is definitely right for me. I love it. I just need an endless supply lol

i hear ya! it's incredible when it's made right!! i can't wait for my store to get the syrup back in stock

I feel like the baristas there arent making it correctly. When the espresso goes in, it usually melts the ice immediately and then you get the correct amount of ice that goes in there. Although there are times that i have to toss some ice out though cus its not enough room to put the milk.

Thank you! It’s not about me wanting more milk or more liquid necessarily, it’s that it’s overwhelming ice amounts that I don’t think are normal

i’m a barista and honestly i just order an iced blonde oat milk latte with brown sugar and cinnamon powder! you get way more for your money and it’s the same deliciousness!!! and it’s actually good with our regular (signature) espresso too
inwonderland18 [OP]12 points2y ago
That sounds great!! Thanks for your advice 🥰 not really sure why others had to say I need to find a drink that better suits me. Like this does fit me. I just need an endless supply 😂
byleths3 points2y ago
yeah literally same!!! I can’t stop drinking it, lol and the good news is the brown sugar syrup is here to stay and not just seasonal 🥰
Seraphimod2 points2y ago
Do this with light ice
byleths1 points2y ago
yesssssss
jhimothy-8 points2y ago
Do this with no ice then ask for a trenta side cup of ice... transfer a half cup of your drink over the ice then shake it a bit then you get the closest thing to a shaken otamilk drink thought not entirely the same preparation.
mthrowaway3111 points2y ago
don’t ask for shaken espresso with no ice. please. just don’t
jhimothy1 points2y ago
Oh not the shaken one... the iced latte suggested by another lerson
LKP957 points2y ago
The shaken espresso beverages were made for customers who want a strong espresso taste with a dash of creamyness. I would just get a latte. You get more wiggle room with that.
inwonderland18 [OP]1 points2y ago
I love the strong espresso taste. I’m obsessed with this drink, maybe I need to go more than once to get my fix
PiratedPlanet2 points2y ago
You could also add extra shots to the latte!
meganroslv7 points2y ago
Tbh the Ice is pretty necessary and I’ve noticed that when I make it with less ice the espresso normally just melts it. By ordering less ice you’d just be getting more milk making your drink weaker. It’s up to you and your taste preference, I guess.
addiekrabbypatty3 points2y ago
You could order a brown sugar oat milk latte with an extra shot! The you would have the same flavor, just not shaken :) Edit: add cinnamon powder also!
csaine1 points2y ago
Cinnamon powder is standard in the brown sugar oatmilk shaken espresso
addiekrabbypatty2 points2y ago
Yes that’s why I added it!
Kittywizarrr2 points2y ago
Barista here! If you know you wanna continue on the brown sugar, I’d suggest like ice and ask for extra oat milk. That way the barista working in your drink knows to fill it to the top, while the ice remains low. Hope this helps!
cush41 points2y ago
Ask for less ice. On Mobile orders We are supposed to give you oat milk to 1/4” below rim if you ask for less ice. If you order in cage we should ask if you want room or extra milk. The ice should not be packed in like that especially after shaking. I don’t know if your barista is adding ice after putting in cup or what
heytherehoe1 points2y ago
ordering less ice in an iced espresso does not equate to more liquid like it would in a latte. you could ask for extra shots or extra milk, or find a beverage that better suits you.
inwonderland18 [OP]0 points2y ago
Yeah I know that. I didn’t know if it was standard to have SO MUCH ice that it’s against the lid so I could probably just ask for more milk
violetskies72 points2y ago
the standard is to have a full cup’s worth of ice. when you add the espresso and shake, it melts enough for us to add just a splash of oat milk on top!
if you asked for light ice and a full cup, you would essentially be just getting a latte due to the milk and shots ratio (plus with that much milk the foam from shaking would be depleted). we are encouraged to discourage customers from ordering light ice as it kind of ruins the beverage!
hope this helps ♥️

They might be filling up the rest with ice. I usually let the shots melt the ice, it fills up about half or 3/4 of the cup, and fill it with oat milk. So for me I say, yes, it’s a bit silly to ask for less ice. But from what your saying, I would ask for less ice at that location. 🤔
inwonderland18 [OP]1 points2y ago
Thank you!! I don’t think I’m crazy! They literally go overboard on ice but I wanted to double check if it’s supposed to be pressing against the lid
cush41 points2y ago
There has been discussions around this you are not crazy. I don’t understand the drama when it was called double shot espresso and customers asked for less ice standard was extra 2% to fill to 1/4 rim. They renamed to shaken espresso and suddenly no one knows our standards. As far as I’m concerned when you pay $6 you can say less ice and get more oat milk it’s not like your ordering an iced doppio and making it into a latte.
